PARKS & FACILITIESWe Create Community Through People, Parks and ProgramsPARK MAINTENANCEThe parks division, maintains nearly 400 acres <strong>of</strong> <strong>City</strong> parks, publicfacility grounds, parkways, and open space. <strong>City</strong> parks are open to<strong>the</strong> public daily from 7:30 am until dusk.PARK RESERVATIONSLarge groups are encouraged to reserve <strong>City</strong> park group picnic areasand BBQ pits. Group picnic facilities are available at Ryon Park, BeattiePark, Ken Adam Park and River Park. These group areas can accommodatelarge groups up to 150 persons. Please complete facilityreservation forms at <strong>the</strong> Anderson Recreation Center, 125 W. WalnutAve., between <strong>the</strong> hours <strong>of</strong> 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday throughFriday. Smaller individual tables and braziers are available on a firstcome,first-served basis in all parks. For more information call 875-8100.FACILITIESRental facilities include <strong>the</strong> Anderson Recreation Center and Dick De-Wees Community and Senior Center, accommodating 30-300 peoplefor special events, exhibition, meetings, etc., and <strong>the</strong> CivicAuditorium, with a seating capacity <strong>of</strong> 430 for performing arts, seminars,meetings, etc. Rates will vary depending on <strong>the</strong> size <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> facilityneeded, <strong>the</strong> type <strong>of</strong> activity and <strong>the</strong> length <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> activity.Applications and fee schedules are available at <strong>the</strong> Anderson RecreationCenter, 125 W. Walnut Ave. Call <strong>the</strong> Facility Supervisor, at 875-8100, for more information..URBAN FORESTRYThe Urban Forestry division plants and maintains over 250 miles <strong>of</strong>median or public right-<strong>of</strong>-way along city streets. This division alsoprovides landscape maintenance along V Street, Olive Avenue, portions<strong>of</strong> Central Avenue and D Street. Medians on D and H Streets,along with <strong>the</strong> downtown flowerbeds, are included in landscape maintenanceschedules. Requests for service can be made by calling 875-8034, from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm on weekdays.BEATTIE PARK RECOGNITION GROVEYou can honor that special individual who has made significant contributionsto <strong>the</strong> quality <strong>of</strong> life in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Lompoc</strong> Valley. An applicationand a brief narrative including a listing <strong>of</strong> achievements, contributionsand/or service to <strong>the</strong> community must be submitted by December1st each year. The application will be reviewed and must beapproved by a sub-committee before a tree and permanent bronzeplaque can be installed in <strong>the</strong> Recognition Grove. The Beautificationand Appearance Commission will approve a maximum <strong>of</strong> four applicationseach year. Remaining applications will be returned to <strong>the</strong>sponsor or held for <strong>the</strong> next year’s review and consideration. Once<strong>the</strong> Commission has approved <strong>the</strong> applications, <strong>the</strong>y are forwarded to<strong>the</strong> <strong>City</strong> Clerk who prepares an <strong>of</strong>ficial resolution commending <strong>the</strong>individual. Persons to be cited as members <strong>of</strong> Recognition Groveare acknowledged at <strong>the</strong> annual Arbor Day ceremony, held eachspring. At that time, <strong>the</strong> resolution is presented to <strong>the</strong> individual. Foran application, please call 875-8034.NEW CITY TREE PLANTING PROGRAMThe city <strong>of</strong> <strong>Lompoc</strong> Urban Forestry Division has established a programfor citizens to request that a street tree be planted at <strong>the</strong>ir residence.Each residence is allowed one tree per 30-40 feet <strong>of</strong> streetfrontage based on <strong>the</strong> tree selected. This program is <strong>of</strong>fered at nocost to <strong>the</strong> public, providing <strong>the</strong> tree is planted on a city street. Citizensare only asked to assist with watering. The <strong>City</strong> provides allo<strong>the</strong>r maintenance. To make a street tree request, call Sherril Woodat 875-8034.PENNIES FOR PLAYGROUNDSWe need your pennies and recyclable plastics! The Pennies & Plasticsfor Playgrounds program is a community wide effort to raisemoney for safe, quality and fun equipment for <strong>the</strong> children <strong>of</strong> ourcommunity. Thanks to your support, new equipment has alreadybeen installed at Johns Manville Park, Thompson Park, Ryon and PioneerPark as a result <strong>of</strong> this exciting program. Our new goal is toraise $150,000 by December 30, 2013. Help provide a stimulatingenvironment for children <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Lompoc</strong> Valley. All it takes is for everyperson to give just 100 pennies a year! You can authorize <strong>the</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong><strong>Lompoc</strong> to add $5, $3, $2, or $1 to your monthly utility bill by pickingup a Pennies for Playgrounds brochure at <strong>the</strong> Anderson RecreationCenter or you can deposit your pennies and/or plastics at <strong>the</strong>following locations:Anderson Recreation Center, 125 W.
