Economy: The most significant economic activities include: trade, industrial<br />

operations, agriculture, small and medium size business, crafts and old<br />

trades, as well as tourism and catering.<br />

Around three quarters <strong>of</strong> <strong>county</strong> revenues<br />

are generated by private small and medium<br />

size entrepreneurs. The most numerous are<br />

entrepreneurs in trade and services, followed by the<br />

processing industry. In practice, entrepreneurship,<br />

tourism and the municipal economy have proven to<br />

be the backbone <strong>of</strong> social and economic prosperity<br />

in Zagreb County.<br />

Agriculture: Agricultural activities include farming<br />

and swine production, cattle breeding, viticulture,<br />

fruit and vegetable growing, as well as fishing. Rural<br />

locations, based on their size and activities, are the<br />

greatest social and natural treasure <strong>of</strong> the <strong>county</strong><br />

(56% are agricultural areas, while 35% <strong>of</strong> the total<br />

area is forested). The average size <strong>of</strong> family farms<br />

in the <strong>county</strong> is approximately 3.35 hectares. The<br />

<strong>county</strong> is second in Croatia in terms <strong>of</strong> value <strong>of</strong> agricultural production, accounting<br />

Autochthonous products: Souvenir Basket <strong>of</strong> Zagreb County: linen towels,<br />

licitar products (traditional honey biscuits), pottery products, new Portugizac<br />

red wine from Plešivica, new Kraljevina Zelina white wine, fruit liqueurs,<br />

ceramic gifts and candied edible flowers. Other autochthonous products:<br />

honey brandy and honey products, Samobor crystal glass, Samobor bermet<br />

(traditional Samobor aperitif) and muštarda (mustard made <strong>of</strong> roughly<br />

ground mustard grains with the addition <strong>of</strong> black grape jam and spices),<br />

Samobor and Turopolje salamis, Suban medicinal plants and teas, products<br />

made by the <strong>county</strong>’s Eko Association and Zrno Eko Farm, as well as other<br />

food products. The Jamnica mineral water spring has been recognized since<br />

1825, and the water has been on the market since 1891. Most <strong>county</strong> product<br />

brands can be found in Interspar shopping centres (“Kap zdravlja” - “A drop <strong>of</strong><br />

health” apple cider vinegar, Varžak honey, Dragec smoked cheese, Kriško cheese,<br />

Laktec sauerkraut, paprenjak – traditional Croatian gingerbread cake, Filipec<br />

Bermet, Korak wine, Tomac, Jarec, Kos-Jurišić, Kolarić, Brigljević spirits, Haluga,<br />

Perković, Ivančić-Sračić wine and spirits) and Mercator (“Kap zdravlja” apple cider<br />

vinegar, Dragec dried and smoked cheeses, Laktec sauerkraut, Samobor salami,<br />

Portugizac Plešivica red wine, Kraljevina Zelina white wine).<br />

Autochthonous desserts: Samobor custard slice (kremšnite), Rudarska<br />

Greblica (miner’s cake), Plešivički Copanjak,<br />

Zlevanka, Vrbovečka Pera, Jelačić slice.<br />
