ff. strengthened, M2 short tear to upper margin, just<br />
touching running title, but with no loss of text, 2f5 with<br />
small section of lower corner torn away, not affecting<br />
text, occasional water-staining, heavier towards end,<br />

title, woodcut historiated initials and head-pieces,<br />
marginal worming, affecting a few letters on a number<br />
of ff. (mostly side-notes), some water-staining, lightly<br />
browned, later half vellum, corners worn, rubbed and<br />
scuffed, [Not in Adams], Lyon, apud Guillaume Rouille,<br />

*** André Tiraqueau’s legal works are of great<br />
importance in the development of the French judicial<br />
system. He was an active member of the Cénacle de<br />
Fontenay-le-Comte, a salon of fellow lawyers, writers,<br />
doctors, philosophers and historians, which included<br />
François Rabelais, Guillaume Budé and Pierre Lamy<br />
among its ranks. Rabelais’ Tiers Livre was greatly<br />
influenced by Tiraqueau’s De Legibus.<br />

course of his discourse he adopts astrological and<br />
numerical reasoning and uses Pythagoras and Thomas<br />
More’s Utopia as points of reference.The second part<br />
is Apologie de Rene Herpin pour la Republique de<br />
I.Bodin; Herpin being Bodin himself.
