touching running title, but with no loss of text, 2f5 with
small section of lower corner torn away, not affecting

*** André Tiraqueau’s legal works are of great
importance in the development of the French judicial
system. He was an active member of the Cénacle de
Fontenay-le-Comte, a salon of fellow lawyers, writers,
doctors, philosophers and historians, which included
François Rabelais, Guillaume Budé and Pierre Lamy
among its ranks. Rabelais’ Tiers Livre was greatly
influenced by Tiraqueau’s De Legibus.

*** Bodin’s classic on absolute sovereignty. In the
course of his discourse he adopts astrological and
numerical reasoning and uses Pythagoras and Thomas
More’s Utopia as points of reference.The second part
is Apologie de Rene Herpin pour la Republique de
I.Bodin; Herpin being Bodin himself.
