BCS-VALUE micro C– fourth generation blanket toolTool design Page 7he long awaited Blanket toolT BCS-VALUE micro C, which hasbeen ordered in advance by many customers,is about to undergo its first field tests.Critical in-house testing has already been successfully completedand the start of series production is currently being prepared.In the first place the most important test was the week-long pressure test inwhich the pressure was changed daily from 300 bar down to 1 bar and back up to300 bar. In this test the fitness for use of the newly developed electronic housing includingthe wiring cover sleeve had to be proved.The new generation is set to continue the success story of the more than 100 BCS setups that have been installedin the past and will provide the customer with significant advantages over the previous generation tools.Characteristics of the tool include- robust, slim design- does without an oil filling- large measuring range of 2000 mm or 3000 mm depending on the model- 21 sensors per tool – providing a resolution of 100 mm or 150 mm- greatly reduced number of components in tool- just one housing seal, no more push-on connectors- low power consumption- virtually no inherent heat of the electronic parts- digital data transfer with checksum of all conductivity values supplies full monitoring and plausibility checkof the determined interface depth- reference resistances installed in the tool permit thecorrect functioning of the tool electronics to be checked at anytime- several tool parts can be combined to a longer system ifmeasuring ranges of more than 3000 mm are to be monitored- operation in real ’one-conductor mode’ – this means any 1-conductor borehole cable with reinforcement strands can beDisplay of the old Versionused (SOCON recommends the extremely robust, specially developed BCS tool cable)Display of the 4th generation- showing general informationas well as the conductivitybetween the individualsensors
