the formula for success!excom ® is a remote I/O systemfor explosion hazardous areas. It isdesigned for installation in zone 1without any extra protectivemeasures. Devices may be connecteddirectly in the field: complexwiring has become superfluous.Modules with protection ratingIP20 and a 18.2 mm wide housingprovide 4 analogue or 4/8 digitalinputs or outputs. The module rackis sized just 43 x 20.6 x 11 cm(w x h x d) and accommodatestwo redundant power supply units, two redundant gateways and up to16 I/O modules. This configurationenables use of 128 digital or 64analogue channels directly in thefield – even if space is extremelylimited.excom ® –novelfieldbustechnologyforhazardousareasProfibus-DP Segment couplerSC12Ex for intrinsicallysafe applicationsThe segment coupler is designed toisolate two intrinsical ly safe PROFIBUSsegments (RS-485 2 x RS-485-IS),with all segments operating as equalcommunication channels. Up to 31modules may be connected to eachof the two intrinsically safe PROFIBUSbranches. The segment coupler operateswith baud rates of 9.6 KBPS up to1.5 MBPS. The baud rate is detectedautomatically, but may also be set asa fixed value.PROFIBUS-DP Fibre-opticcoupler for Zone 1The new fibre-optic coupler OC11Ex/2G converts intrinsically safe PRO-FIBUS-DP IS signals into intrinsicallysafe optical signals (and vice versa). The RS485-IS interface fully complieswith the Profibus guidelines of thePNO. Up to 31 bus devices can beconnected to the fibre-optic coupler(RS485 IS interface). Baud rates of9.6 KBPS up to 1.5 MBPS are feasibleand are automatically detected.A special feature: the fibre-opticcoupler can be directly poweredwith 24 VDC in the field without anyfurther isolating measures (EExe ratedpower supply).Extremely useful features forhazardous area applications:• remote I/O system for use inzone 1• redundant power supplies andgateways• intrinsically safe connection toPROFIBUS-DP with V1functionality• online parameter setting andconfiguration• consistent and transparentHART ® parameterisation fromthe control to the device level• operating temperature rangefrom -20...+60ºC• exchange and insertion of allcomponents during operation• modules can be inserted andremoved manually without anytools• 128 digital or 64 analoguechannels via a single bus address• forcing and substitute valueprogramming for analogue anddigital I/OsFig. 1:I/O module for connection of8 NAMUR sensors or actuators.Freely selectable I/O configuration,e.g. 8 inputs or 8 outputs over6I/2O thus.To enable consistent redundancy, thecoupler can be powered redundantlywith 18...32 VDC. Line errors suchas wire-break or short-circuit are nottransferred to other segments. The SC12Ex features one status LEDfor each of the three PROFIBUS segments, one LED for each power cableand one status LED for automaticbaud rate detection. The Profibus is connected via a9-pole female SUB-D connector. Theuser can choose a shielding conceptthat is suited to his specific application. The segment coupler SC12Ex ismounted in the non-hazardous areaand features protection rating IP20.The device may be installed and operateddirectly in Zone 1, provided itis installed in an approved protectivehousing. There are 4 status LEDs toindicate the active power supply, thefibre-optic segment, the RS485-ISsegment and the baud rate. For reconversion of the optical signalsto standard PROFIBUS signals(in both directions), TURCK offersa Zone 2 fibre-optic coupler. TheOC11Ex/3G is equipped with astandard RS485 interface and anintrinsically safe optical interface. Thedevice may be used in the non-explosionhazardous area or Zone 2.www.turck.comHans Turck GmbH & Co. Innovative Fieldbus components:a glance into the futureUSE the advantages of FDT!Enhanced system availability due toredundant power supplies. Exchangeof defect devices during operation.Space-saving and open I/O modleswith a variety of functions, sized1.82 x10x10cm (wxhxd) only.Exchange and insertion of modulesduring operation.Gold-plated miniature connectorswith high contact stability forconnection of I/O modules.Easy module insertion via integratedguide rails. Ventilationslots ensure sufficient systemventilation. Selectable slot codingmethod to avoid interchangeerrors.PNO RedundancyThe availability of a remote I/O isnot just achieved by the hardware. The benefits of a fieldbus system totransfer a vast amount of data withminimum installation effort providesa high signal density per PROFIBUScable. There is a redundancy conceptfor the bus structure to ensurethat entire system sections are nottotally dependent on the availabilityof one cable. For a long time nostandard existed in the Profibusworld regarding the implementationof system redundancy. This has resulted in many manufacturer-specificredundancy solutions. The implementation of variousmanufacturer-specific redundancyconcepts is partly not possible orrequires an inordinate amount of engineeringeffort in the control system.TURCK has tackled this problemand implemented PNO Slave RedundancyV1.2 for excom ® . Theredundancy and online engineeringfunctionality which exists in theexcom ® system is fully retained. On the redundant bus, PROFIBUSslaves from various manufacturerscan be connected according to thePNO redundancy profile withoutadditional engineering effort.Accordingly, a separate PROFIBUSfor every slave manufacturer must nolonger be installed in the field. Thusthe interoperability – fully serving theinterests of the system operator – isat last provided in the PROFIBUS DPredundancy concept. The system operator can select theproducts based on their functionalitywithout limiting the availability ofthe system.DTM for Remote I/OThe excom ® DTM has a modulardesign. The individual componentsare arranged in the “Base modules”,“Module”, “Channel” and “Connecteddevice” levels in an FDTframe. Using this hierarchy the usercan click on the individual assetsdirectly per browser. The remote I/Oexcom ® complex can be managedover a range of functions with themodular DTM:up-to-date process data isdisplayed. It also supplies statusinformation concerning the validityof the data. Depending on themodule the data is shown as a bardisplay, value window or illuminateddisplay.excom ® devices DTM andcommunications DTMField devices DTMThe external power supply isconnected via screw terminalsfeaturing protection type EEx e.Both power supply modules canbe powered by a separate supply. The possibility of using tworedundant gateways enhancessystem availability significantly.Modules may be exchangedduring operation. Two redundant miniature 9-poleD-Sub connectors for connection tothe higher level fieldbus. Positioningon the backplane enables exchangeof gateways without interruption ofthe bus communication.Field devices are connected via4 connectors. Counterpieces areavailable as screw terminalsalternatively as cage clamp terminals.Module front panels with amechanical coding system and amounting bracket. Simple manualinsertion and removal of moduleswithout any additional tools.Module rack with backplanebus, integratedvoltage supply and buscommunication in three standardversions for 18 or 9 modules.Status indications for eachmodule via dual colour (green/red)LEDs. Individual I/O indications areprovided by a yellow/red LED.FDT/DTM TechnologyFDT technology enables you toprogram and parameterise your fielddevices and to graphically representyour measured values using just asingle program on your office PC. Itis no longer necessary to deal withdifferent methods of data representationand you can now concentratedirectly on the content of the data.Save yourself the necessity ofusing different tools for parameterisationof manufacturerspecificproducts! Utilise theadvantages of FDT:• Common navigation and userinterface• DTMs are supported by almostall systems• Certified DTMs guaranteeinteroperability• For use with all field devices andcommunication protocolsTURCK has been involved withFDT/DTM technology from the veryoutset and is today one of theleaders in this field. Particularlyworth highlighting from the TURCKDTM range is the modular DTM ofthe excom ® zone 1 remote I/Osystem. The size and functionality ofthis driver is currently unique on themarket. For TURCK, DTMs in physical layercomponents are practically standard. Thus the basis has been laidwhich allows the physical layer tobe treated as a manageable asset. The objective is to introduce moretransparency for the users into thephysical layer. TURCK uses theDTMs to provide the systemoperators with information fromthe physical layer.OperationA dialog window for viewing theparameters can be accessed forevery excom ® module. Here themodule-specific settings aremapped on a channel-related basis. An incorrect parameterisation is – incontrast to a GSD based configuration– not possible as a plausibilitycheck is performed immediately onentry.MonitoringEvery DTM provides a view of theI/O level for visualisation of theperipherals, in which the currentSimulationCommissioning of the excom ® ,including the used peripherals issimplified significantly by the simulationview of the DTM. Input data canbe overwritten, e.g. in order tosimulate benchmark values for fieldinstrumentation. The actuators canbe set to the simulated state via theoutput data. Analogue values asshown in the above example can berepresented as a percentage or mAvalue. The simulation value correspondingto the display can bedefined using a slider of a numericalvalue.Diagnostics andIdentificationAnother two useful functions of theDTM are the “Diagnostics” and“Identification” dialog window. Thechannel faults of the peripherals aredisplayed in the diagnostics view. Ifthere is a fault the channel numberis indicated with a plain text message. The corresponding terminalsare marked red. The identificationview supplies the necessary data forsystem management such as:• Device type• Order number• Lot code• Revision levels• and further device information
