Corporate Social Responsibilities“Let’s Do Sports Together” () is a programme thatthe Group launched together with the State Council’s Officeof Leading Group of Poverty Support and Development () to improve the standardsof physical education in impoverished regions. In 2010, theGroup continued to support the campaign, in which physicaleducation teachers in Luoyang, Henan Province and GuizhouProvince received professional training free-of-charge. Byimproving the instructors’ teaching ability, more children wouldbe able to benefit from, and hence enjoy, the physical andmental well-being brought about by sports. At the end of 2010,the campaign had been in operation for five years, benefitteda number of state-level poverty alleviation and developmentcounties covering more than half of China, and trained over1,600 teachers.The Group’s sponsored sports stars also acted as ambassadorsfor promoting the Group’s social responsibilities and contributedto China’s physical education by various means. During theGuangzhou Asian Games, the new gymnastics champion, YangYilin (), visited Li Ning Gymnastics School in Foshan, topersonally coach the aspiring athletes while sharing with themthe pleasure of gymnastics and encouraging them to holdon to their own sporting dreams. As the Overseas PromotionAmbassador of the Russian Pavilion, pole vault athlete ElenaIsinbayeva, also joined “Visit the Expo with Stars” () campaign as a delegate of Li Ning Company.The Group has long been deeply engaged with high schoolsin China to show its concern for the development of youngpeople. In 2010, the Group co-organised with Beijing IndustrialPromotion Centre () the “Li Ning PrizeNational Undergraduates Innovative Design Competition” (), which provided a practicaldesign platform for contestants. The Group also invited over1,000 teachers and students of industrial design and relatedprofessions from 14 high schools to visit the Group’s designand R&D centre and to exchange ideas with top designers.Through all these activities, the Group encouraged youngstudents to discover and demonstrate their talents and providedthem with an opportunity to learn more about the actual work.LENDING A HELPING HAND TO SOCIETYWith the standard of good corporate citizenship in mind, theGroup places importance on social care. In July 2010, theCompany invited Yushu Zere Orphanage’s Tibetan children tovisit Li Ning Centre where Mr. Li Ning personally received thisgroup of unfortunate children who had been orphaned by theearthquake and showed them passion and warmth.Mr. Li Ning was the Health Ambassador of the Shanghai WorldExpo and also attended several activities organised by theWorld Expo Business Coordination Bureau, actively promotinga greener lifestyle. Led by Mr. Li Ning, children suffering fromAIDS from the Fu’ai Association in Fuyang were also invited tovisit the Shanghai World Expo, where they were able to immersethemselves in the excitement and happiness brought about bythe Shanghai World Expo.The charitable acts of the founder and leader of the Group,while reflecting corporate social responsibilities of the Group,establishes a benchmark for the Group’s public interest valuesand demonstrates the Group’s vision in actively engaging inpublic welfare across the globe.In 2010 the Group continued to work with The United NationsWorld Food Programme (WFP) to actively participate inpromoting charity and the building of an international mediaplatform, including the promotion campaign launched with WFPin U.N. Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo and investment inourdoor promotion. Moreover, Mr. Li Ning also participated inan international aid campaign in Cambodia at the end of theyear, calling on society to show more concern towards the livingstandards of people in underprivileged regions of the world andto work hand in hand to help fight poverty and starvation.88 Li Ning Company Limited Annual Report 2010


CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITIESIMPLEMENTATION OF ECO-FRIENDLY IDEASThe Group puts environmental friendly concepts into practice byactively taking initiatives to protect the environment and reducecarbon emissions. Implementation of the Group’s environmentalfriendly beliefs are not only encouraged in our staff members’day-to-day work habits, but also deeply entrenched in ourproduct innovation and promotion.In 2010, the Group zealously promoted the “Green Life, Low-Carbon Living” scheme, aimed at saving energy for andreduction emission from major energy-consuming equipmentand encouraging the bit-by-bit contribution of our staff intheir daily work, with a view to saving resources in the officeenvironment in a variety of ways. Policies are in place in theLi Ning Centre, such as switching off lights for one hour everyday, adjusting brightness of lights according to time of the day,working overtime in the same area, installing sunlight-blockingcurtains in rooftop of buildings, using solar-energy hot watersystem and advocating reduced use of water and paper and ofelevators by putting up notices near lavatories, staircases andphotocopiers so as to lower energy consumption. The Groupplans to implement paperless facsimile and kick off projectssuch as contracted energy management in the near future, forfurther energy saving and emission reduction.Efforts were made to continuously promote the LI-NING brandenvironmental friendly Eco-Circle apparel in 2010. RecyclableEco-Circle materials continued to be used in several LI-NINGbrand apparels, while recycling of clothing is ongoing. In parallel,LI-NING brand further promoted the Eco-Cut tailoring techniquethat increases the utilisation of materials.The Group is consistently putting into practice and promotingenvironmental awareness in every segment of its footwearproducts including the choice of materials and formulae for shoesoles. It takes an active role in introducing and using variousenvironmental materials, for example bamboo charcoal fibreand corn fibre, and in adopting various methods to maximisethe utilisation of chemical raw materials. Regarding formulaefor shoe soles, we try to add various environmentalcomponents and actively promote the use ofenvironmental cotton shoe pads. Products entailingenvironmental ideas as represented by “Master V”(V) which fully utilises various environmentalmaterials including corn fibre leather and naturalbamboo flaps etc. were launched, which betterconvey the ideas of our environmental friendlyproducts to the consumers.our business and stepping forward as an international brand,the Group keeps a close eye on the harmonious coexistencebetween itself, nature and society in the long-term pursuit ofsustainable development.SOCIAL RECOGNITIONIn May 2010, Universum held a competition for the “IdealEmployer for University Students in China” (), which consisted of a survey of 400,000 studentsand those from the workforce. The results showed that theCompany was among the top ten “Enterprises with the BestCorporate Social Responsibility” ().In December 2010, the Company was honoured with the titleof “China’s Best Enterprise Employer in Apparel Industry” (). This award was co-organised by CFWand China Fashion Magazine, assessing candidates basedon their company culture, efficiency in communication, staffdevelopment and care programme and policy innovation.In February 2011, the Company was named one of “Best 50Workplaces” (50), for the second year.The above-mentioned awards demonstrate that the Companyis well regarded by the industry and the human resourcesmarket as a preferred employer, which is strong recognition ofthe Company’s emphasis on staff development and its peopleorientedapproach. Encouraged by such social recognition,the Company will continue to practice strict self-restraint,with the aim of giving back to society and contributing to theharmonious and sustainable social development while securinga steady and healthy growth model. The Company is firmlycommitted to incorporating social responsibility into its multilevelaccountability framework for Shareholders, employees,consumers, government, community and the environment.The Group believes that enterprises are an integralpart of the community, and both the natural and thesocial environment are indispensable to the survivalof enterprises.
