IntroductionGrowth tables and charts are an essentialcomponent of the paediatric toolkit.For an assessment of well-balanced developmentan estimation of a series of parametersis more relevant than comparisonof a sole parameter.In our paper we present part of theresults of a detailed cross-sectional studyof physical development of Czech childrenaged 0–3.49 years – recumbent length(0–1.99 y.), standing height (2.00–3.49 y.),body weight, chest circumference takenacross the mesosternal point, transversechest diameter, antero-posterior chest diameter,index of antero-posterior and transversechest diameters and relative growth ofsomatic dimensions (% of the adult size, %of the birth size). In addition to our paperindexes of chest circumference, transversechest diameter and antero-posterior chestdiameter and recumbent length and standingheight were published (4).Comparison of our study and the 6 thNationwide Anthropological Survey ofchildren and adolescents, Czech Republic,2001 (7) in selected diameters – recumbentlength (0–1.99 y.), standing height(2.00–3.49 y.) and body weight – didn’tshow statistically significant differences ofthe mean values in general.B1961 (Bouchalová, 1987) K1983 (Krásničanová, 1989)Age N Mean S.D.
