Guide to Aboriginal Edmonton 2010-11 - City of Edmonton

Ta’wow / Welcome

Ta’wow / Welcome Guide 2010 – 2011 Edition Aboriginal Edmonton is a dynamic, vibrant, energetic community. It’s young, entrepreneurial, educated, culturally active, artistic, and caring. It’s the home of the second largest urban Aboriginal population in Canada. As well, Edmonton is the corporate and political headquarters of many Alberta Aboriginal organizations and government agencies. The “Aboriginal community” is not one community, but “many communities” and is, therefore, a refl ection of the diverse and multifaceted Aboriginal population that makes Edmonton their home. The Aboriginal people in Edmonton have roots that are deeply sown and well-traveled throughout the whole of the City and extend from the past, through to the present, and will continue well into the future. The City of Edmonton’s Edmonton Aboriginal Urban Aff airs Committee (EAUAC), Aboriginal Edmonton Guide founder, in partnership with the Edmonton Aboriginal Relations Offi ce have worked collaboratively to reproduce this guide with the intent to help you navigate the diverse and friendly Edmonton community. We hope you fi nd it useful. Your feedback and suggestions are welcomed. ii www.edmonton.ca/aro
