<strong>EMPLOYEE</strong> <strong>NURSE</strong> <strong>REFERRAL</strong> <strong>PROGRAM</strong>(January 2008)The VCU Health System is very proud to be your employer of choice and is grateful that you wouldrecommend us to a friend, colleague, or family member who might be seeking opportunities as a full-timeregistered nurse. We know the best way to recruit employees is through our own exceptional employees.Effective January 1, 2008, in an effort to recruit additional experienced registered nurses to our workforce, theEmployee Nurse Referral Program bonus will be enhanced to offer up to $5,000 for experienced FT, $2,500for PT, and $1,000 for PRN nurses. The $3,000 referral bonus will still be available for referrals with less thanthree (3) years of experience including $1,500 for PT or $500 for PRN nurses.GUIDELINES• All current employees of the VCUHS are eligible to receive a bonus for referring a nurse who acceptsemployment with the VCUHS. (You do not have to be a nurse to refer a nurse!)• To be eligible for the referral bonus, the candidate cannot have been employed by the VCUHS within thelast 12 months.• The referring employee will receive the referral bonus in installments:$5000 LevelFT RN1) $2,000 within 30-days of the candidate’s hire date.2) $1,500 upon the candidate’s successful completion of the 6-month probationary period in afull-time status.3) $1,500 upon the new nurse completing 1 year of continuous full-time employment.For a PT RN1) $1,000 within 30-days of the candidate’s hire date.2) $1,000 upon the candidate’s successful completion of the 6-month probationary period.4) $500 upon the new nurse completing 1 year of continuous employment.For an Hourly (PRN) RN1) $500 within 30-days of the candidate’s hire date.2) $500 upon the candidate’s successful completion of the 6 months of employment.$3000 LevelFT RN1) $1,000 within 30-days of the candidate’s hire date.2) $1,000 upon the candidate’s successful completion of the 6-month probationary period in afull-time status.3) $1,000 upon the new nurse completing 1 year of continuous full-time employment.For a PT RN1) $500 within 30-days of the candidate’s hire date.2) $500 upon the candidate’s successful completion of the 6-month probationary period.3) $500 upon the new nurse completing 1 year of continuous employment.For an Hourly (PRN) RN1) $250 within 30-days of the candidate’s hire date.2) $250 upon the candidate’s successful completion of the 6 months of employment.


1. The referring employee must remain in an active status to be eligible for referral bonus payments.2. The nurse being referred must note on their VCUHS Application for Employment that they are beingreferred by a current employee and provide the name of the employee.3. A current employee will not receive a referral bonus for referring a new nurse graduate in the followingsituations:a. The new nurse graduate conducted clinical rotations or training within the VCUHS environment.b. The VCUHS provided or will provide financial assistance toward the candidate’s nursing education.Employees who are being compensated to represent and recruit staff to VCUHS as part of their normal jobwill not be eligible for referral bonuses. This would include employees attending community events, job fairs,conferences, etc. where it is the expectation of VCUHS to promote job opportunities. All referrals are subjectto verification by HR and Nurse Managers.How can you submit your referral?• Tell your candidate to make sure they include your name as the person referring them on their application.• Please complete the attached form for candidates you’ve referred and submit to Human Resources,PO Box 980066 or fax 628-8873.• If you know a registered nurse who might be interested in employment with the VCUHS and would likeHuman Resources to contact them, please indicate on the attached form.This program will be in effect for an undetermined amount of time and can be cancelled or reducedwithout notice.
