1System OverviewThe Genius Bus Controller (catalog number IC697BEM731) can be used to interface aPACSystems RX7i controller or Series 90-70 PLC to a broad range of other devices ona Genius I/O serial bus.RX7i or Series 90-70 PLCwith Genius Bus ControllerHost ComputerSeries 90-30 PLC withbus controller moduleSeries 90-30 PLC withcommunications modulePCIMGenius BusGeniusBIUGenius I/O BlocksGeniusNIUSeries 90-70 Remote I/O Dropwith Remote I/O ScannerVersaMax I/O StationField Control I/O StationA Genius bus may serve:▪ Individual Genius I/O Blocks. Genius blocks are self-contained discrete, analog, and special-purpose modules with advanced diagnostics capabilities and manysoftware-configurable features.▪ Other PLCs: RX7i, Series 90-70, Series 90-30. Series Six and Series Five PLCscan also be connected to the Genius bus.▪ Series 90-70 Remote Drops. A remote drop is a Series 90-70 rack that isinterfaced to the bus by a Remote I/O Scanner module. Each remote drop canexchange up to 128 bytes of input data and 128 bytes of output data.▪ VersaMax and Field Control I/O Stations. An I/O Station consists of a group ofI/O and special-purpose modules connected to the bus via an interface module. Each remote drop can exchange up to 128 bytes of input data and 128 bytes ofoutput data.▪ Multiple hosts, for communications using datagrams and Global Data.A bus may be used entirely for I/O control, or it may feature I/O control enhanced bycommunications commands in the program. A bus may also be dedicated to CPUcommunications, with multiple CPUs and no I/O devices. More complex systems canalso be developed, with dual CPUs and one or more additional CPUs for datamonitoring.Number of Bus Controllers in a PLCUp to 31 Bus Controllers can be included in the RX71 or Series 90-70 rack system. Insome redundant systems, fewer Bus Controllers are possible. See chapter 7 fordetails.GFK-2017 Chapter 1 Introduction 1-3
