CONNECTIONLeaders celebrate opening of McNairyCounty Health Department expansionThe McNairy County Health Department cut the ribbon on their 4,000 sq. ft. expansionproject Monday, January 24.“Basically we doubled in size,” said county director Chris Morris. “This departmentsees a lot of patients and has needed this extra space for a long time.”McNairy County received a $300,000 Community Development Block Grant and$75,000 from the Tennessee Department of Health for the new construction.The department, which broke ground on the renovations in June, started seeingprimary care patients in 2006 while still providing preventive health services.The McNairy County Health Department sees approximately 6,000 patients per year.

CONNECTIONAdult Leadership Class learns aboutgovernment and economic developmentThe third session of the 2011 MRA Adult Leadership Class was held Wednesday,January 16. The session focused on local government and economic development.The session began with a tour of the McNairy County Justice Complex. McNairyCounty Court Clerk Ronnie Brooks and McNairy County Sheriff Guy Buck spoke tothe class about the various functions of their office.2011 Adult Leadership participants include Sybil Dancer, Pamela Durbin, DorothyGoodrum, Kenney Hilliard, Melissa Ingle, Pat Smelser, Lee Swearingen, and SamVise.

CONNECTION2011 MRA Annual Banquet and Gala heldThe McNairy Regional Alliance Banquet and Three-Star Celebration was enjoyed bythe largest crowd to attend an annual banquet. Attendance exceeded 300 and wasalmost twice that of last year’s banquet.It was a night to celebrate another successful year of the Alliance and 30 years ofThree-Star Excellence. McNairy County is the only county in Tennessee toaccomplish this trend setting success.The Three-Star celebration is the teamwork of hundreds of volunteers and thousandsof hours devoted to improving McNairy County. We offer our sincere thanks to allthose past leaders that continued the goal of making McNairy County a better place tolive and work.

CONNECTIONAnnual Banquet and Gala held continued . . . . . .The highlight of the evening was the keynotespeaker, Mr. Hiroshi Sato, Consul-General ofJapan in Nashville. Consul-General Satoheads the Consulate-General of Japan inNashville which serves a five-state regionincluding Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana,Mississippi and Tennessee. He entered theMinistry of Foreign Affairs in 1973. Hisoverseas assignments include the Embassiesof Japan in Washington, D. C., Malaysia, NewZealand, and the Philippines. Among otherposts, he also served as First Secretary of thePermanent Mission of Japan to the UnitedNations, Political Counselor of the Embassyof Japan in Egypt, Director of Ocean Affairs,Director for Protection of Japanese NationalsOverseas, Deputy Consul General of Japan inNew York and in Hong Kong, China before heassumed his current position in October 2008.He gave an interestingand entertaining talk thatwas enjoyed byeveryone.
