CPYB Artistic and Executive LeadershipCPYB’s exceptional faculty is chaired by Marcia Dale Weary, Founding Artistic Director. CPYB’s year-round faculty, who have trainedmany students who have gone on to dance professionally, are augmented by more than twenty outstanding teaching professionals fromthe larger dance world. CPYB’s average teacher to student ratio is 1:20.Artistic LeadershipMarcia Dale Weary, FoundingArtistic Director. Ms. Weary iscelebrated by critics and peers alikeas one of the nation’s foremostinstructors of classical ballet. Shebegan her teaching career in Carlisle,PA, in 1955 after her own studies withThalia Mara and Arthur Mahoneyat the School of <strong>Ballet</strong> Repertory inNew York City. Under her leadership,<strong>Central</strong> Pennsylvania Youth <strong>Ballet</strong> hasproduced thousands of exquisitelyprepared, classically trained dancers,including current principal dancers Ashley Bouder, Lia Cirio,Zachary Hench, Carrie Imler, Abi and Jonathan Stafford, EthanStiefel and Vanessa Zahorian, just to name a few. Currentlymore than 70 alumni occupy positions in highly regardedballet companies such as New York City <strong>Ballet</strong>, American <strong>Ballet</strong>Theatre, San Francisco <strong>Ballet</strong>, Boston <strong>Ballet</strong>, Pacific Northwest<strong>Ballet</strong>, Miami City <strong>Ballet</strong>, and Pennsylvania <strong>Ballet</strong>.Ms. Weary’s unequaled dedication to her school, students andinstructors, and her unique teaching style have brought <strong>Central</strong>Pennsylvania Youth <strong>Ballet</strong> to the top of the dance field. The NewYork Times stated Ms. Weary produces “dancers well knownin the ballet world.” According to DanceTeacher magazine, she“produces students who have the whole package—attention todetail, early technical development, and a broad socializationinto the arts.” Ms. Weary and CPYB have been featured inleading newspapers and magazines, television news and features,and in the award-winning documentary film presented onnational public television “Children with a Dream.”She has been the recipient of many awards and distinctions overthe past two decades including the 1992 recipient of theDistinguished Service to the Arts Award for <strong>Central</strong> Pennsylvania;the 2000 Carlisle Regional Arts Award, of which she was the firstrecipient; the 2007 Pennsylvania Governor’s Award for the Artsfor Outstanding Leadership and Service to Youth; and the 2009Distinguished Citizen of the Commonwealth Award; the <strong>Central</strong>Penn Business Journal 2010 Woman of Influence Award for herleadership, integrity and accomplishments; and most recently,an honorary doctor of performing Arts degree from DickinsonCollege in recognition of her contributions to the performing arts.Darla Hoover, Associate ArtisticDirector. Ms. Hoover was trained at therenowned <strong>Central</strong> Pennsylvania Youth<strong>Ballet</strong> under the direction of MarciaDale Weary and completed her studieson a full scholarship at the School ofAmerican <strong>Ballet</strong>.In 1980, after choreographing a solofor her in the New York City Operaproduction of Bourgeois Gentilhomme,George Balanchine invited Darla to become a member of hisNew York City <strong>Ballet</strong>. From 1980-1991, Ms. Hoover appeared as afeatured soloist in ballets such as Balanchine’s La Valse, Chaconne,Harlequinade, Ballo della Regina, as well as Peter Martins’ EightEasy Pieces, Rossini Quartets, Sonata di Scarlatti, and JeromeRobbins’ Fanfare.Ms. Hoover now focuses her attention to teaching and stagingballets. In addition to her positions as the Associate ArtisticDirector of the <strong>Central</strong> Pennsylvania Youth <strong>Ballet</strong> and AssociateArtistic Director of <strong>Ballet</strong> Academy East’s graded children’sprogram in Manhattan, Ms. Hoover guest teaches all over theworld. Working as a distinguished répétiteur, Ms. Hoover stagesworks for the George Balanchine Trust and for Peter Martins,<strong>Ballet</strong> Master-in-Chief of the New York City <strong>Ballet</strong>. Recentstagings have included George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker,Raymonda Variations, Serenade, Divertimento #15, Valse-Fantaisie, Allegro Brillante, Stars and Stripes, and “Rubies” aswell as Peter Martins’ Eight Easy Pieces and Fearful Symmetries.Alan Hineline, Chief ExecutiveOfficer and Resident Choreographer.Mr. Hineline brings a rare blend ofbusiness acumen and artistic expertiseto one of the nation’s leading schoolsof classical ballet.Hineline comes directly to CPYBafter serving as artistic director andchief operating officer (COO) of<strong>Ballet</strong> Philippines in Manila. With hisextensive arts management experience,he has outlined a strategy to expandCPYB’s image, while continuing to develop financial supportof the organization’s educational, performance, and outreachinitiatives. Dedicated to represent CPYB and help establishpartnerships with individuals and organizations, he has become anactive participant in the region’s artistic and social communities.A sought-after choreographer and ballet master, Hineline’s workshave appeared in the repertories of many companies in NorthAmerica and have been received enthusiastically in performancesaround the globe. In 1997, at the invitation of Artistic DirectorMarcia Dale Weary, Hineline was named Resident Choreographerfor <strong>Central</strong> Pennsylvania Youth <strong>Ballet</strong>. During the last 13 years,he has created numerous ballets for this internationally acclaimedschool and company. Additionally, his body of work can be seenin the repertories of American <strong>Ballet</strong> Theatre Studio Company,Pennsylvania <strong>Ballet</strong>, Atlanta <strong>Ballet</strong>, and The Juilliard DanceEnsemble, among many others. His works have been performedat the New York International <strong>Ballet</strong> Competition, the AoyamaInternational <strong>Ballet</strong> Festival in Tokyo, and the International <strong>Ballet</strong>Competition in Jackson, Mississippi.As a teacher, Hineline has instructed every level of dancer, frombeginner through professional.
