The budget alsopledges support for Small to Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) (doubling the fundingavailable through the Small Business Loans Association programme). In addition, thereis money to improve the province’s infrastructure—$235 million to continue modernizingthe transportation system (including $5 million for rural roads in addition to the$19 million provided to the municipalities for this purpose), and $10 million for aprovincial-municipal infrastructure programme to help northern, rural, and urbanmunicipalities address priorities. 48• Key Ministries: Aboriginal Affairs DivisionEconomic and Co-operative DevelopmentOffice of Northern AffairsFinanceKey Provincial Economic Development Programmes• The Aboriginal Employment Development Programme 49 was established in 1992 tofacilitate employment opportunities for Aboriginal peoples across the public andprivate sectors. Through the development of an Aboriginal inventory, the programmestrategically links employers with suitable Indian and Metis candidates. It also providesfollow-up support services upon hiring and increases crosscultural awareness in theworkplace.
