Profiles of Three Former Guantanamo DetaineesAbdullah Saleh al-Ajmi: Al-Ajmi was captured inAfghanistan in 2001 and held at Guantanamo Bayuntil his 2005 transfer to Kuwaiti custody. Kuwaitreleased him shortly thereafter. In 2008 he and anotherman blew themselves up in a suicide attackon an Iraqi police force that killed six people.Abu Baqir Qassim: Qassim was one of several Uighurseparatists from China held at GuantanamoBay. Qassim was accused of receiving terroristtraining. He was captured in 2001, and held inGuantanamo Bay until 2006. He was then transferred to Albania where he wasgranted political asylum. There he wrote an editorial in the New York Timesurging Congress not to remove the right of habeas corpus from Guantanamodetainees. He has said that he feels isolated in Albania, particularly because hiswife and children are unable to leave China to join him.Salim Hamdan: Hamdan was captured in Afghanistan in 2001. He was accusedof being Osama bin Laden’s driver. He contested his imprisonment inHamdan v. Rumsfeld, and was released from Guantanamo Bay in 2008.
