True, there are fewer “new” golf courses beingbuilt than there were several years ago, but the existingones have taken steps to improve their layouts withexcellent improvements. As an example, nearly a dozen courses we havearound Charlotte have changed their greens frombent-grass to heat-tolerate hybrids to insure play is notinterrupted during the hot summer months. Some have reroutedto add distance to accommodate the improvementin the golf equipment available today. The Carolina Golf Journal has been directlyinvolved in delivering the news about these changesand improvements, however to make sure our golfcommunities stays healthy we encourage local golfers todo some home-work and pursue courses you don’t playregularly.Take the CGJ golf course guide in the middle ofthis issue and see if there is another course you and yourbuddies can play. Check the course’s website, call theclub or drop by in a spare moment to see if it’s a courseyou would like to try.The local golf course owners work hard to earn yourbusiness, and CGJ asks that you reward that effort bybeing a “scatter-golfer”, one that plays several courses todo your part to maintain what we have in the Carolinas. To get started, check out the golf course informationyou will find in this issue for Mt. Mitchell, Eagle Chase,Rocky River, Ft. Mill and White Oak. And, if you havecourses we haven’t noticed yet, let us know. We are allin the golf business together as players and owners….Thanks in advance for doing your part.NEXT ISSUE: LATE SUMMER 2013WWW.CAROLINAGOLFJOURNAL.COM - SUMMER 2013 - 1
