• Secure funding <strong>for</strong> day to day expenses, and base your lobbying to the<br />

donor on the needs and commitment ascertained in the above step<br />

• Set up criteria <strong>for</strong> entry into the programme, and include considerations <strong>for</strong><br />

special groups e.g. young women or other disadvantaged groups as per the<br />

needs identified in your community<br />

• Ensure that the space <strong>for</strong> training is ample and in a clean, friendly and<br />

spacious place, conducive to learning and sharing<br />

• Ensure that adequate , well-trained, good facilitators, are available <strong>for</strong> the<br />

set training calendar<br />

• Set dates <strong>for</strong> a ‘training-calendar’, which will suit the community<br />

• Adapt the curriculum<br />

to suit the needs of your community and be creative and innovative<br />

in integrating issues beyond just economic empowerment, and SRH.<br />

Explore other areas of economic empowerment, which best suit your<br />

community needs, it may, <strong>for</strong> instance, not be an advantage to have a<br />

driver’s license in your community, it may be better to have IT skills or<br />

accounting skills<br />

to speak to issues beyond <strong>for</strong>mal employment, but also ‘how to survive<br />

on your own’ – looking at entrepreneurial pursuits and non-<strong>for</strong>mal<br />

employment. In the advent of the graduate being unable to secure a<br />

job post-training immediately, they will then not become demoralised<br />

and can pursue other innovative avenues of making a decent living<br />

Phase 4: Once the basics are set-up you can begin to implement, by:<br />

• Sending out a call <strong>for</strong> applicants, after designing an advert which shares the<br />

criteria and qualifications needed from the applying candidates<br />

• Set dates <strong>for</strong> the training, and ensure they fall within time periods that are<br />

best suited <strong>for</strong> community members, <strong>for</strong> instance not over long holidays<br />

or farming/harvest periods as your potential candidates may be otherwise<br />

engaged<br />

• Host the trainings using an approved curriculum<br />

• Host a <strong>for</strong>mal graduation, making it a big community event and inviting<br />

parents/guardians, community leaders, service providers, donors, service<br />

providers (health, agriculture, youth), government representatives. Utilise<br />

this plat<strong>for</strong>m as a marketing event and also to showcase the good work<br />

being done by the intervention. Make it a fun day.<br />

• Offer post-production support in various ways<br />

Link with employment agencies<br />

Offer suitable positions in the implementing organisation as interns or<br />

volunteers<br />

Guide with moral and group support<br />
