Carmen Lozano BrightSpainI have a degree in journalism, and have lived in Madrid since 2012, where I am currentlyresearching the rising transformation of citizen laboratories and peer-to-peer (p2p) practices.I participate in El Campo de Cebada and in the C4C Collective, as well as coordinatingpedagogical aspects and communications for the Open Summer University held there. Ipresented the project in Helsinki at Pixelache Fest in June 2014 and at mARTadero project,Cochabamba (Bolivia) in August 2014. I also collaborate with La Aventura de Aprender (TheLearning Adventure), a cross-institutional project that has shot more than 200 p2p experiencesin Spain for national television.P2P labs across theSouth of EuropeBuilding a network throughout the explosion of emerging peer-to-peer social practicesthat are transforming citizen culture, arts, urbanism and even drawing lines in institutionalpolitics and agenda setting. In our everyday practices, we observe, analyse andconfirm that what we call the “cultural industries” arefar removed from day-to-day, common, local culturalpractices. Across Southern Europe, and particularly inSpain, a wide range of bottom-up social and culturalpractices have grown up during the current economiccrisis. While the welfare state is being questioned andgovernments are progressively abandoning socialobligations such as education, health and culture,we are also seeing a surge of communities forming, dedicated to caring for their common public space:social centres, open schools, self-organised squares, urban gardens, hacklabs, medialabs, makerspaces. The idea we are developing is to contact, track andanalyse similar movements and practices taking placethroughout Southern Europe. The second stage wouldbe to evaluate different p2p management models, aswell as their relationships with their local governments. The third stage would introduce the creation andpromotion of a network linking these communities.14
