Until now, Russia’slimited resources prevented it fromoverhauling military equipment, mostof which was developed over 20 yearsago. However, the situation has beengradually improving, and increaseddefense spending has largely facilitatedMoscow’s efforts to supply its ArmedForces with modern weaponry andequipment.Michael Maples, director of thePentagon’s Defense IntelligenceAgency, recently said the RussianArmy’s combat and theater-leveltraining is now at its highest since thebreak-up of the Soviet Union. TheUnited States is somewhat concernedbecause the Russian Defense Ministryis focusing on rearmament,modernization of available weaponsand efforts to revive the defenseindustry. This only proves that theRussian Armed Forces have nowstarted improving.On Feb. 7, Russia’s Deputy PrimeMinister and Defense Minister SergeiIvanov addressed the State Duma,the lower house of parliament, at theGovernment Hour and said hisMinistry would receive 821 billionrubles ($30.98 billion, or Euro 23.87billion) in 2007. They continued to be‘deformed’ because my arm wasstill short and my hand was stilltwisted — not totally whole inappearance. Instead of beingthankful for the tremendousimprovement, I found myselfthinking, ‘Why didn’t God answermy prayer and heal me? I stilldon’t have a right arm and handthat match my left side.’ And Iwent on feeling frustrated andlimited for years.“Then one day during mypersonal devotional time, Ifinished my Bible reading andwas meditating. I again beganto wonder why God hadn’tanswered my boyhood prayers.Suddenly I became intenselyaware of God’s presence, andHe seemed to speak to me.”“‘I answered your prayer!’ theLord said. ‘You are whole. Youcan do just about anything withyour right arm that you can dowith your left. You have a goodmarriage and beautiful children.You have a profitable business. Ihave blessed you and met yourneeds. Why do you feel that yourprayers were not answered?’“I was astonished at thosewords, Rexella. I jumped to myfeet and shouted, ‘Thank You,Lord, for opening my eyes. Youdid answer my prayer. By notallowing the comfort of theHoly Spirit to overwhelm us,we make ourselves vulnerableto the ravages of doubt and fear.One of the first times Iremember hearing “Wait,Rexella” was when I was just a

For awhile I watched as she workedin the kitchen preparing tobake a pie.When I grew restless, mygrandmother said, “Rexella, assoon as I finish baking this pie,we’ll go down and get an icecream banana split. But fornow I want you to sit here onthe counter and wait.”A few minutes later I asked,“Are you almost done,Grandma?”“No, honey, you have to wait.”“Yes, but I want to go get mybanana split now!”“No, I’m not finished here.You must wait a little longer.”In another moment or two,I was asking again, “Are youthrough yet?” So mygrandmother decided to usethe waiting time to teach mesomething new. Spreadingsome flour across the counter,How many timesdo we riskmissing out onGod’s blessingsbecause they maynot arrive in theexact packagewe’re expecting?she taught me how to form theletters and spell the word B-A-N-A-N-A. I was so delighted atmy new accomplishment that Imomentarily forgot myimpatience.I believe that God sometimeshas lessons to teach us as wewait. There can be great valueto be gained just by waiting,although it’s hard for peoplein today’s age of instantgratification to appreciate thistruth.We’ve all heard the old jokeabout doctors telling patientsto “take an aspirin and call mein the morning.” Well, currentmedical research suggests thatmaybe these medics weren’tjust ignoring their patient’sneeds. The truth is that Godhas put a miraculous healingforce within our bodies that,with just a little time, will beginto heal a high percentage ofmaladies.It’s also true that time is agreat healer in incidents ofloss and grief. What seemsunbearable and inconsolabletoday will become less painfuland easier to bear as time goesby. As the Psalmist Davidexpressed so beautifully,“Weeping may endure for anight, but joy cometh in themorning” (Psalm 30:5).Don’t misunderstand me —I’m not saying that we shouldpray about something, thenjust wait until we get over itnaturally. We’ve all experiencedthose wondrous times whenGod came upon the scene andmoved in our behalf almostinstantly. In fact, there aretimes, God says, “Before theycall, I will answer; and whilethey are yet speaking, I willhear” (Isaiah 65:24).If we need an instant answer,God will not forsake us or fail.But there are times when weneed to wait — not impatiently,but bravely, stoutheartedly, andwith courage. One dayshe read that if she had faith asbig as a grain of mustard seed,she could pray for the mountainto be removed and it would go.So she decided to try it.“Oh, God, if you love me,remove that mountain. I havefaith that You can do this, sotonight I’m asking you to takeit away.”I believe that realfaith is notsomething you tryto believe — it issomething youcannot doubt!The next morning the womangot up, walked into her kitchen,and looked out the window.“There’s that mountain,” shesaid, “just as I expected!”Do you expect God to answerwhen you pray? For forty years thechildren of Israel wandered inthe wilderness, missing out onthe blessing of going into thePromised Land.As a matter of necessity, theroad out of Egypt’s slavery ledthrough the desert. But theIsraelites did not go throughthe desert patiently. Theygriped, complained, doubted,and rebelled! The more theymurmured and rebelled, thelonger they had to wait.The land God had promisedwas out there, just an elevendaymarch away (seeDeuteronomy 1:2). It waswonderful country — almostliterally “flowing with milk andhoney.” But most of theIsraelites died in the desert,wandering around and aroundin the wilderness until theymissed out on the blessing. Itwas real! God had intended forthem to have it! But their lackof prayer, lack of faith, andlack of patience ultimatelydestroyed them.Forty years later, when thedoubters and murmurers weredead, Joshua led the newgeneration — and a handful offaithful old-timers — into theland of Canaan.Oh, my dear friend, therehave been times in my lifewhen I was tempted to focuson the problem and not on thesolution God was going to giveme. In those moments, I wasbecoming part of the problem!Have you had that experience?Isn’t it wonderful that God isfaithful?
