Providing Alert And Identification Of Downed AircraftDEPLOYABLE FLIGHT INCIDENTRECORDER SET (DFIRS) 2100Combined Deployable CVR/FDR/ELT for Fixed-Wing AircraftThe DFIRS2100 is a combined Flight Data Recorder (FDR),Cockpit voice Recorder (CVR) and Emergency Locator Transmitter(ELT) designed to provide instantaneous alert and accuratelocation/identification of a downed aircraft, assist in thespeedy rescue of survivors, aid in the recovery of the aircraft, ifnecessary, and assure timely recovery of vital CVR/FDR data foraccident investigation.Deployment and RecoveryIn the event of an accident, the deployment of the Beacon AirfoilUnit (BAU) is automatically triggered by on-board sensors, therebyallowing the BAU to escape the devastating effects of the crash. The ELT immediately transmits its distress signal, includingaircraft identification number to the COSPAS-SARSAT network. With its Global Positioning System (GPS) encoding option, the BAUtransmits the aircraft’s last known latitude and longitude to aid insearch and rescue efforts. The BAU floats indefinitely, providingsuperior survivability and localization of crew and aircraft thatcrash in water.Flight Safety through h TechnologyDRS uses the most advanced Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS)technology to provide a highly-reliable, solid-state, light-weightand operationally effective DFIRS2100 system. The combinationof a CVR, FDR, and ELT in a deployable, crash survivable airfoilthat can be installed on helicopters, fixed-wing and fast-jetaircraft has resulted in a world-class solution to the requirementto record data for post accident investigation.
