5th VELUX Daylight Symposium15–16 May 2013VenueThe 5th VELUX Daylight Symposium will be held atThe Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School ofArchitecture in Copenhagen on 15 and 16 May 2013.The school, founded in 1754 – and one of the oldestschools of architecture in the world – is located atHolmen, a congregation of small islands in the heartof Copenhagen harbour – formerly used as navalbase. The official welcome reception will take placeon 14 May 2013 at the Tycho Brahe Planetarium,which is located in the centre of Copenhagen nearthe Central Station.ScalePeopleEconomyThemeThe symposium will - under the theme “NewEyes on Existing Buildings” – specifically focuson the opportunities and challenges offered bydaylight in the retrofit of existing buildings and citystructures. While they are not yet realised, most ofthe sustainable buildings of the future are alreadybuilt. How can we exploit the untapped potentialof buildings by using daylight to transform ourhomes, workplaces and public spaces into healthierand more sustainably built environments?
