MOOREThe following are the minutes of our regular meeting held Sunday, August 14, 2001 at 767 Washington Avenue,Brooklyn.IN ATTENDANCE: Neil Benjamin; Lance Chase; Wayne King; Leon Kingston; Aubrey Smith; Sholto Fox;Karen Wharton; Neil Jackman; Oswald Edwards; Frank Denbow; Gordon Williams; Doret Edmonds; MichaelJones; and Gordon Wilson.APOLOGIES: Mohamed Karimullah; Maxine Cole-Grant; Vishnu Mahadeo; Larry Boxhill; and Louis Londonsubmitted apologies for their absence.ISSUES:Family Fun Day: Event went well although there were no organized games for the kids. About 20 kids werethere. It was suggested that there be better organization in the future, ensuring adequate toilet facilities andactivities for the kids.Vernley Ward Bursary: It was decided that if Zelda Luke was successful in obtaining a scholarship to studyMedicine in Cuba, that the Ward family’s contribution be placed in a fund to be co-managed with the NYChapter. Such contributions can be used to fund an additional scholarship in a subsequent year.Chemistry Lab Equipment: The head of the Chemistry department has migrated to Canada, and a newcontact will be established as soon as the name of the new department head is made available to us.Easter Ball: It was agreed that the Treasurer submit to us an official statement outlining the revenues,itemized major expenses, and the net profit realized by this event.Labor Day BBQ: Authorities claim that the Liquor License will be obtainable in a few days. It was agreedthat a fall back strategy be developed in case the license is not furnished in time. Gordon Williams willcoordinate ads with Caribbean Daylight. The committee will also secure greater participation from BHS. Louiswill post the event on the web-site. Karen will be asked to prepare an e-flyer for circulation. Kari agreed tospearhead all advertising efforts.Folding Chairs : The chairs have been received by QC. It was agreed that there be an official presentationwith the NY Chapter being represented by Shirley Jackman, Neil Jackman’s mother. The Jackman’s will bereimbursed upon presentation of the receipt for the purchase of the chairs.ICQC Reunion in Toronto: This event will be held in Toronto from Friday, September 28 th to Sunday,September 30th. There will be a welcome reception on Friday at the Scott Westney House at 7.30 pm. TheGala Dinner/Dance will be held on Saturday the 29 th , at the Park Hotel from 6pm. The ICQC meeting will beheld on Sunday starting at 1:30pm at the Scott Westney House.AGM: The treasurer will furnish a detailed financial statement for 2000/2001 year, prior to the AGM. Thiswill enable discussion on the financial status of the organization and to facilitate the transfer to the newExecutive Committee. A list of financial members eligible to vote should also be furnished to the membershipbefore the AGM. Reports by the officers should outline their activities for the year, including an analysis ofstrategies that succeeded or failed, and suggestions for improvements in 2001/2002 year.OTHER BUSINESS:a) Gordon reported that the Association had been contacted by a Lorelei Tate who was interested in making adonation to QC on behalf of Pipevine, a charitable organization located in California. Neil Jackman hadindicated that he would investigate and report to ICQC during the meeting in Toronto in September. It wasagreed that the tax ID should be furnished upon the provision of a letter by Pipeline requesting the tax ID.b)Dr. Wilton Nedd sent out letters on behalf of the ICQC soliciting contributions from prominent QC alumniamong others. It was suggested that as the NY Chapter is the only one with tax exempt status, that allcontributions be made to the Phoenix fund, with the chapter soliciting the contribution noted in the memo field tofacilitate tracking.c)Ian Wishart of the London chapter asked if we good source a world globe as it would be available morefile://G:\storage\qcsite\newyork\minutes\2001\aug.htm 9/6/2001
