Which Of The Ten Commandments DidJesus Repeal?1. Was there something wrong with the TenCommandments?2. Were they weak legislation in the first place?3. Or did they somehow become obsolete with thepassage of time?

Which Of The Ten Commandments DidJesus Repeal? Why are laws repealed?1. The law may be unenforceable.2. It may be unpopular with the people.3. The law simply can‘t be maintained.• Because of massive disobedience (―Theycan‘t put all of us in jail‖).

Which Of The Ten Commandments DidJesus Repeal? We could point to dozens of examples, but there isstill only one fundamental reason for the repeal ofa law:1. It is not a good law.2. It was either (1) a bad law in the first place, or(2) it became a bad law in time.3. For which of these reasons did Jesus repealthe Ten Commandments?

Do You See The Problem We’reDealing With? It‘s one thing to create a doctrinal argument tothe effect that God abolished the law, but it‘sanother matter to explain why such a thingshould be done. This brings us logically to the next question. Thequestion is simple enough, but receivessurprisingly little attention. What is the effect of repealing a law?

When A Law Is Repealed When a law has been abolished or repealed, it isno longer a crime to break that law. Technically you cannot break it because it nolonger exists. An action that previously was considered acrime, worthy of punishment is now deemedacceptable by society.

When A Law Is Repealed During prohibition, you could have gone to jailfor having a case of beer, wine or whisky in thetrunk of your car. After prohibition was repealed, that same caseof alcohol made you no more a criminal thanwould a suitcase full of clothes. Once a law is repealed or abolished, there areno more penalties, no more guilt, no fines, noimprisonment not even an admonition from thejudge. You cannot break the law, for it is nolonger a law.

When A Law Is Repealed Is the law of God different in some way? Perhaps the Ten Commandments could beabolished….. and yet it is still wrong to breakthem? No!

When A Law Is Repealed John categorically defined sin so no one couldmisunderstand: ―Sin is the transgression of thelaw‖ (I John 3:4). What happens to sin, if the law is abolished? Listen to Paul‘s reply: ―For where no law is, thereis no transgression‖ (Romans 4:15). Later in thesame epistle, Paul affirms, ―Sin is not imputedwhen there is no law‖ (Romans 5:13).

Let’s See If We Can Understand This Suppose for a moment the Commandment―Thou shalt not steal‖ is abolished. If the Ten Commandments and law wereabolished, then thou shalt not steal no longerexists. Since there is no law, then it is not atransgression to steal. In that case, there is nopenalty, no guilt, and no forgiveness needed.

No One Suggests That It’s All RightFor A Christian To Steal Why does anyone argue that the TenCommandments were abolished? Some argue that ―the law of love‖ keeps us fromstealing even though the Ten Commandmentsare abolished. Why should love keep us from doing somethingthat isn‘t wrong anymore? And, if it is still wrongto do it, why argue that the law doesn‘t exist?

Which Of The Ten CommandmentsDid Jesus Repeal? Is it possible that those who advance thisargument don‘t really believe that the TenCommandments are abolished? The Sermon on the Mount is one of Jesus‘ mostfundamental teachings. In the Sermon on theMount Jesus said:―Think not that I am come to destroy the lawor the prophets: I am not come to destroy butto fulfill‖ (Matthew 5:17).

How Are We To Understand ThisStatement? Did Jesus mean to say;―Think not that I am come to destroy the lawor the prophets: I am not come to destroy butto abolish‖? Western theology says, ―notice that Jesusfulfilled the law, so it was then able to passaway.‖

Matt 5:17-18 ―Don‘t think that I have come to abolish theTorah or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but tocomplete. 18 Yes indeed! I tell you that until heaven andearth pass away, not so much as a yud or a stroke willpass from the Torah — not until everything that musthappen has happened. CJB Matt 5:17-18 Do not think that I have come to do away withor undo the Law or the Prophets; I have come not to doaway with or undo but to complete and fulfill them. 18 Fortruly I tell you, until the sky and earth pass away andperish, not one smallest letter nor one little hook[identifying certain Hebrew letters] will pass from the Lawuntil all things [it foreshadows] are accomplished. AMP Matt 5:17-18 "Do not think that I have come to abolish theLaw or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them butto fulfill them. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earthdisappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of apen, will by any means disappear from the Law untileverything is accomplished. NIV

Have Heaven And Earth Passed? Have all things written in the law and the prophets cometo pass? Jesus explains the consequences of what He just said: ―Whosoever therefore shall break one of these leastcommandments, and shall teach men so, he shall becalled the least in the kingdom of heaven: butwhosoever shall do and teach them, the same shallbe called great in the kingdom of heaven‖ (verse 19). These would be strange words if Jesus intended to nailthe Ten Commandments to the cross, and abolish thethem and every law in the bible.

Have Heaven And Earth Passed Away?Exodus 20:3-171. Thou shalt have no otherGods before me.2. Thou shalt not make anygraven image.3. Thou shalt not take thename of the Lord in vain.4. Remember the SabbathDay, to keep it Holy.5. Honor they father andthey mother6. Thou shalt not kill.7. Thou shalt not commitadultery.8. Thou shalt not steal.9. Thou shalt not bear falsewitness.10.Thou shalt not covet.

Have Heaven And Earth Passed? After the giving of the Ten Commandments andafter Israel had boldly promised that they wouldkeep the law, God said; ―They have well said all that they have spoken.O that there were such an heart in them, thatthey would fear me, and keep all mycommandments always, that it might be well withthem, and with their children forever!‖(Deuteronomy 5:29).

Have Heaven And Earth Passed? Jesus kept the Ten Commandments perfectly throughout Hislife here on earth. Jesus Christ is ―the same yesterday, today, and forever‖ (Hebrews 13:8). Acts 15:19-22 Therefore it is my opinion that we should notput obstacles in the way of and annoy and disturb those of theGentiles who turn to God, 20 But we should send word tothem in writing to abstain from and avoid anything that hasbeen polluted by being offered to idols, and all sexualimpurity, and [eating meat of animals] that have beenstrangled, and [tasting of] blood. 21 For from ancientgenerations Moses has had his preachers in every town, for he is read [aloud] every Sabbath in the synagogues.22 Then the apostles and the elders, together with the wholechurch, resolved to select men from among their number andsend them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They choseJudas called Barsabbas, and Silas, [both] leading men amongthe brethren, and sent them. AMP

Renewed Strength Comes FromSabbath RestIsa 58:11-14 Adonai will always guide you; he willsatisfy your needs in the desert, he will renew thestrength in your limbs; so that you will be like awatered garden, like a spring whose water neverfails.12 You will rebuild the ancient ruins, raisefoundations from ages past, and be called ―Repairerof broken walls, Restorer of streets to live in.‖ 13 ―Ifyou hold back your foot on Shabbat from pursuingyour own interests on my holy day; if you callShabbat a delight, Adonai‘s holy day, worthhonoring; then honor it by not doing your usualthings or pursuing your interests or speaking aboutthem. 14a. Perspective # 1 Sunday The First Day Of The Week, Is TheSabbath. It commemorates the resurrection of the LordJesus Christ. It is the Lord's Day and hasreplaced the seventh-day Sabbath. Christiansare certainly under no obligation to observe the7 th . day.

Perspective # 2 It Is The Spirit That Matters, Not The Day OfThe Week On Which You Choose To Rest. The days of the week are all alike, there is noneed to become emotionally polarized aboutany particular one. Friday, Saturday or Sundayare all the same to God. The important thing isto keep yourself holy every day of the week.Christians meet for worship on Sunday, because we are not under the law.

Perspective # 3 The True Weekly Sabbath Of The AlmightyGod Of Israel Was, Is, And Ever Will Be, TheSeventh Day Of The Week." Sunday is not the Sabbath day at all. The Sabbath, according to the unalterable Ten Commandments.Exodus 20:8-11, Deut. 5:12-14 and Matthew 5:17-18 isthe seventh day of the week, the day commonly knownas Saturday. You may read the Bible from Genesis toRevelation and you will not find a single verseauthorizing or indicating that the Father, Jesus, Apostlesor the first 300-500 years of the early church eversuggested, instituted or practiced a change from the 7 th.Day Sabbath to a 1 st. Day Sabbath.

Sabbath Thus the arguments rage back and forth acrossthe globe and is even now stirring in the mindsof many in Christianity. Sabbath is not CHRISTIAN or ORTHODOX. Itis Sabbath. The Sabbath is not a yoke of bondage. It is aday of worship, joy, rest, eating, enjoyingscriptures and fellowship.

Is Sunday The Sabbath, And Did It ReplaceThe Seventh Day?Matthew 5: 17: Think not that I am come to destroy thelaw, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but tofulfill. 18: For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earthpass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from thelaw, till all be fulfilled. To answer this question we will do twothings:1. First find in the Bible texts that specifically mentionthe first day of the week.2. We will prayerfully examine those verses payingparticular attention to see if there is indication orsuggestion to change or modify the Sabbath Day to a1 st. Day observance.

Perspective # 1 "Sunday The First Day Of The Week, Is TheSabbath.” It commemorates the resurrection of the Lordand Pentecost. It is now the Lord's Day and hasreplaced the seventh-day Sabbath. Christiansare certainly now under no obligation to observethe Seventh Day Sabbath.

The First Day Change, Let’s Discuss“The Morrow After The Sabbath” In the Scriptures the days of the week are not named, butnumbered from one to seven. The only exception is theseventh day of the week which is called the Sabbath.Consequently, the day we all know as Sunday is referredto in the Bible as the "first day of the week." There are only nine texts that mention the first day, one inthe Old Testament and eight in the New. "And God said, let there be light: and there was light. And God saw that it was good: and God divided thelight from darkness. And God called the light day andthe darkness He called night. And the evening and themorning were the first day." (Genesis 1:3-5)

The Following Five Verses ConcernThe Sunday After Christ’s Crucifixion."In the end of the Sabbath, as it began todawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Maryto see the sepulchre." (Matthew 28:1)"And when the Sabbath was passed,Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother ofJames, and Salome had brought sweetspices, that they might come and anointHim. And very early in the morning, thefirst day of the week, they came unto thesepulchre." (Mark 16: 1-2)

The Following Five Verses Concern TheSunday After Christ’s Crucifixion."Now upon the first day of the week, veryearly in the morning, they came unto theseulchre bringing the spices which they hadprepared, and certain others with them."(Luke 24:1)"The first day of the week cometh MaryMagdalene early, when it was yet dark, untothe sepulchre, and seeth the stone takenaway from the sepulchre." (John 20:1)

The First Day Justification Lev 23:11 He shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, tobe accepted on your behalf; on the day after theSabbath the priest shall wave it. (This is Passover). 1 Cor 15:20-23 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who havefallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Manalso came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as inAdam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.23 But each one in his own order: Christ thefirstfruits, afterward those who are Christ's at Hiscoming. (NKJ) This Sheaf offering was to be waved in the house of theLord ―on the morrow after the Sabbath‖.

The First Day JustificationThus we have two foundational stones of theChristian Faith. The resurrection of Jesus wason the ―First Day of the new week, not the onthe Seventh Day Sabbath.‖John 20:1 On the first day of the week MaryMagdalene went to the tomb early, while itwas still dark, and saw that the stone hadbeen taken away from the tomb. Arriving atPre-Dawn.

The First Day JustificationThe time frame from Egypt to Mt. Sinai and the giving ofthe Law was fifty days this was the first Pentecost.First month, Abib or NisanSecond month, ZifThird month Sivan15 days.30 days.4 days.49 days or 7 weeks. In Leviticus 23:15-16 we see the linking of Passoverwith Pentecost. We are to count from the Passover waveoffering 49 days, or seven Sabbaths (7x7=49). Add oneday and you arrive at ―the morrow,‖ Pentecost / fifty.

In Acts we see the fulfillment of this time periodagain as 50 days (Matt. 5:17-18; 11:13).After the Lords resurrection He was seen for 40days speaking to His followers. At the end of thistime He told 500 followers to tarry in Jerusalemuntil the Holy Spirit was outpoured upon them 10days.40 days of ministry by Jesus.10 days of tarrying in obedience to His Word.50 days thus we have the New Testament Pentecost.

The First Day JustificationWhat we see here is that the Day of theSheaf Wave Offering or Firstfruits wascelebrated on ‗the morrow‖ after the Sabbath. The same truth is noted about the Feast ofPentecost. It was celebrated on the first dayof the new week or the morrow after theSabbath. It is important to note here that theResurrection of Jesus and the outpouring ofthe Holy Spirit both took place on the morrowor the first day of the week.

The First Day JustificationThese are two foundational events and bothhappened not on a traditional Sabbath Day, buton the First Day of the Week. Thus we have those who say this is theprecedent for a First Day Christian Sabbath thatacknowledges the two most Holy events, recorded in the New Testament. Even thoughthere is not one supportive scripture to makesuch an assumption.

The days of the week are all alike, there is noneed to become emotionally polarized aboutany particular one. Friday, Saturday or Sundayare all the same to God. The important thing isto keep yourself holy every day of the weekand forget about a weekly Sabbath, because itno longer exists, because Jesus has becomeour Sabbath rest.Perspective # 2 “There Is No Longer A SabbathCommandment To Observe. It Is The SpiritThat Matters, Not The Day Of The Week OnWhich You Choose To Rest."

The Apostles WorshippedOn The First DayLet us now move on to examine the intent of thescripture and you decide what is implied. "Then the same day at evening, being the first day of theweek, when the doors were shut where the disciples wereassembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood inthe midst and saith unto them, ―Peace be unto you." (John20:19)This meeting took place on Sunday evening after theSabbath ended. The disciples were assembled, and weare told, "for fear of the Jews.“We would be deluding ourselves if we tried to classifythis meeting as the inauguration of a new Sabbath day.The Sabbath is not even mentioned in this verse.

It Is The Spirit, Not The Day"And upon the first day of the week, when thedisciples came together to break bread (eat), Paulpreached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow, and continued his speech until midnight." (Acts 20:7)This text is also put forward as "proof" of a SundaySabbath. Here is evidence, that the early church meton a Sunday and that a Communion Service washeld! Only two options can explain the above text.1. It either began on Saturday evening after sundownand finished in the early hours of Sunday morning; orit began on Sunday evening and finished in the earlyhours of Monday morning.

It Is The Spirit, Not The Day2. The "breaking of bread" took place after midnight.(verse 11)Paul and his companions, after bidding farewell to theirhost, then walked from Traos to Assos (verse 13) - adistance of some 18 miles. If this was a Saturdaynight meeting, then a 18 mile walk on the following day(Sunday), after staying up most of the night, was hardlythe way for a converted Pharisee like Paul to keep theNew Sabbath.Certainly there is no scriptural intent that suggests aSabbath change.

It Is The Spirit, Not The Day Now concerning the collection for the saints,as I have given order to the churches ofGalatia, even so do ye. 2: Upon the first dayof the week let every one of you lay by him instore as God hath prospered him, that therebe no gatherings when I come. 3: And when Icome, whomsoever ye shall approve by yourletters, them will I send to bring your liberalityunto Jerusalem." 1 Corinthians 16:1-3 The Greek word thesaurizon (store) means"treasuring or storing up."

It Is The Spirit, Not The Day The Greek lexicon of Greenfield translates theGreek here as, "with one's self", i.e. at home. Andthis fact totally overthrows the idea that this textproves that a church meeting on a Sunday is beingreferred to. ―It indicates that the Corinthian believers did notmeet on the first day of the week, but were in thisinstance being appealed to by Paul to do someprivate saving at home. Then at Paul's coming ageneral "gathering" (collection of money) would notbe necessary. The already collected funds could betotaled and taken by trustworthy brethren toJerusalem to help the believers there. The Sabbathday is not even mentioned in this verse.‖

Perspective #3The True Weekly Sabbath Of The AlmightyGod Of Israel Was, Is, And Ever Will Be, TheSeventh Day Of The Week." The Sabbath, according to the unalterable TenCommandments is the seventh day of the week, theday commonly known as Saturday (Exodus 20:8-11Deut. 5:12-14 and Matthew 5:17-18) . You can read the Bible from Genesis to Revelationand you will not find a single verse indicating, debatingor any council meeting to authorize the observance ofFirst Day or a Spiritual Rest Of Choice.

The Sabbath Predates The MosaicLaws And Was A Precedent OfGod Gen 2:2-3 ―And on the seventh day God ended His workwhich He had done; and He rested on the seventh dayfrom all His work which He had done. 3 And Godblessed (spoke good of) the seventh day, set it apart asHis own, and hallowed it, because on it God restedfrom all His work which He had created and done.‖ Ex 20:11 ―For in six days the Lord made the heavensand the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and restedthe seventh day. That is why the Lord blessed theSabbath day and hallowed it [set it apart for Hispurposes].‖ [Heb 4:9,10.] AMP

The Precedent Of GodNot Moses or Israel Gen 2:2-3 And on the seventh day God endedHis work which He had done, and He rested onthe seventh day from all His work which He haddone. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day andsanctified it, because in it He rested from all Hiswork which God had created and made.

Entering The Rest Of The Lord Heb 4:1-6 THEREFORE, WHILE the promise of enteringHis rest still holds and is offered [today], let us be afraid[to distrust it], lest any of you should think he has cometoo late and has come short of [reaching] it. 2 For indeedwe have had the glad tidings [Gospel of God] proclaimedto us just as truly as they [the Israelites of old did whenthe good news of deliverance from bondage came tothem]; but the message they heard did not benefit them, because it was not mixed with faith (with the leaning ofthe entire personality on God in absolute trust andconfidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness) bythose who heard it; neither were they united in faith withthe ones [Joshua and Caleb] who heard (did believe).

Entering The Rest Of The Lord 3 For we who have believed (adhered to and trusted inand relied on God) do enter that rest, in accordance withHis declaration that those [who did not believe] shouldnot enter when He said, As I swore in My wrath, Theyshall not enter My rest; and this He said although [His]works had been completed and prepared [and waiting forall who would believe] from the foundation of the world.4 For in a certain place He has said this about theseventh day: And God rested on the seventh day fromall His works. [Gen 2:2.] 5 And [they forfeited their part init, for] in this [passage] He said, They shall not enter Myrest. [Ps 95:11.]

Entering The Rest Of The Lord Heb 4:6-8 Seeing then that the promise remains over[from past times] for some to enter that rest, and thatthose who formerly were given the good news about itand the opportunity, failed to appropriate it and did notenter because of disobedience, 7 Again He sets adefinite day, [a new] Today, [and gives anotheropportunity of securing that rest] saying through Davidafter so long a time in the words already quoted, Today, ifyou would hear His voice and when you hear it, do notharden your hearts. [Ps 95:7,8.] 8 [This mention of a restwas not a reference to their entering into Canaan.] For ifJoshua had given them rest, He [God] would not speakafterward about another day.

Entering The Rest Of The Lord Heb 4:9-11 So then, there is still awaiting a fulland complete Sabbath-rest reserved for the[true] people of God; 10 For he who has onceentered [God's] rest also has ceased from [theweariness and pain] of human labors, just asGod rested from those labors peculiarly Hisown. [Gen 2:2.] 11 Let us therefore be zealousand exert ourselves and strive diligently toenter that rest [of God, to know and experienceit for ourselves], that no one may fall or perishby the same kind of unbelief and disobedience[into which those in the wilderness fell]. AMP

Is Rest Just A Spiritual Metaphor? Matt 11:28-29 Come to Me, all you who labor and areheavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you torest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.] 29Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle(meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest( relief and ease and refreshment and recreation andblessed quiet) for your souls. AMP Heb 4:9-11 So there remains a Shabbat-keeping forGod‘s people. 10 For the one who has entered God‘srest has also rested from his own works, as God did fromhis. 11 Therefore, let us do our best to enter that rest; sothat no one will fall short because of the same kind ofdisobedience. CJB

14a. If you do, you will find delight in Adonai— CJB

Changing The SabbathThe New Testament is completely void aboutany change of the Sabbath.Matthew 24: 20: But pray that your flight benot in the winter, neither on the Sabbathday. In this passage the Messiah advised Hisfollowers to request in prayer that the Father soarrange circumstances that any exodus or flightwould not be on the Sabbath. In this text it isclear He can only be referring to the Sabbaththat is still being celebrated at the end of theage.

Changing The SabbathNow pause and think about that advice: If theSabbath commandment was scheduled forcancellation at the cross - as some suppose -then why did Jesus give His disciples thisinstruction about the Sabbath?

The Millennial ReignOf Jesus Christ?Zech 14:15-16 And so shall be the plague of thehorse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the ass, andof all the beasts that shall be in these tents, as thisplague. World History The seventh day of the week has been theSabbath since the creation of the world. Gen 2:2-3 And on the seventh day Godended His work which He had done, and Herested on the seventh day from all His workwhich He had done. 3 Then God blessed theseventh day and sanctified it, because in it Herested from all His work which God hadcreated and made.

World HistoryMoses understood the Sabbath Covenant. Ex 16:24-30 Then Moses said, "Eat that today, for todayis a Sabbath to the LORD; today you will not find it in thefield. 26 Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventhday, the Sabbath, there will be none." 27 Now ithappened that some of the people went out on theseventh day to gather, but they found none. 28 And theLORD said to Moses, "How long do you refuse to keepMy commandments and My laws? 29 See! For theLORD has given you the Sabbath; therefore He givesyou on the sixth day bread for two days. Let every manremain in his place; let no man go out of his place on theseventh day." 30 So the people rested on the seventhday.

How Did All This Start? The Catholic Church will "gladly mention" thatit changed the day! For it shows that theProtestants are not relying on the Bible astheir only rule of faith -as they claim -but areinstead acknowledging the "authority" of theRoman Church to change God's law. Dan 7:25 And he shall speak great wordsagainst the most High, and shall wear out thesaints of the most High, and think to changetimes and laws: and they shall be given intohis hand until a time and times and thedividing of time. How Did All This Start? The Council of Nicea (A.D.325)This was the first stages of Constantine and TheRoman Church to purge the church of its Jewishroots. Until this time the original model first centurychurch was celebrating the Sabbaths, feasts, NewMoons etc. Here is what he said to the Roman bishops followingthis council;―Let us, then, have nothing in common with the Jews, who are our adversaries, this irregularity [observingPassover] must be corrected, in order that we may nolonger have anything in common with the parricidesand murders of our Lord.‖ Dudley, Dean. History of the first council of Nice. 4 thed. Boston: D. Dudley & co. 1886. p. 112

How Did All This Start? The Council Of Antioch (A.D. 345)―If any bishop, presbyter or deacon will dare, after this decree, to celebrate Passover with theJews, the council judges them to be anathemafrom the church. This council not only deposethem from ministry but also any others who dareto communicate with them. Council of Antioch (canon I, second part).

How Did All This Start? The Council Of Laodicea (A.D. 365)―It is not permitted to receive festivals which areby Jews, nor to hold a festival together with them(Canon 37). Christians must not Judaize byresting on the Sabbath, but must work on thatday…but if any be found to be Judaizers letthem be anathema from Christ. The Council of Laodicea (360) Canon37).

How Did All This Start? The Council Of Agde, France (506)―Clerics must not take part in Jewish festivals.‖The Council Of Agde (506) (canon40.)The Council Of Toledo X (seventh centur―Easter must be celebrated uniformly‖ [at thetime set by the decree of Nicea rather than atthe time of Passover.] The Council of Toledo X (canon1).

How Did All This Start? The Council Of Niceea II (787)―[Those who] openly or secretly keep theSabbath and follow other practices in themanner of the Jews are not be received incommunion, nor into prayer, nor into thechurch.‖ The Council of Nicea II (AD 787, canon VIII).

Changing The Holy Days Here's how The Catholic Mirror explains it:"The Protestant world at its birth found theChristian Sabbath [Sunday] too stronglyentrenched to run counter to its existence; it wastherefore placed under the necessity ofacquiescing in the arrangement, thus implyingthe Church's right to change the day, for over300 years. The Christian Sabbath [Sunday] istherefore to this day the acknowledged offspringof the Catholic Church... without a word of[protest] from the Protestant world" The Catholic Mirror (Sept.23, 1893).

Changing The Holy Days Stephen Keenan, A Doctrinal Catechism, p.174:Question: Have you any other way of proving that theChurch has power to institute festivals of precept?Answer: Had she not such power, she could not havedone that in which all modern religionists agree withher—she could not have substituted the observance ofSunday, the first day of the week, for the observance ofSaturday, the seventh day, a change for which there isno scriptural authority....

Changing The Holy DaysStephen Keenan, A DoctrinalCatechism, p. 174:Question: When Protestants do profane workupon Saturday... do they follow the Scriptureas their only rule of faith...?Answer: On the contrary, they have only theauthority of tradition for this practice. Inprofaning Saturday, they violate one of God'scommandments, which He has never clearlyabrogated, ―Remember thou keep holy theSabbath.‖

Changing The Holy Days The Convert's Catechism of CatholicDoctrine, 3rd ed., p. 50:Question: Which is the Sabbath day?Answer: Saturday is the Sabbath day.

Changing The Holy Days The Convert's Catechism of CatholicDoctrine, 3rd ed., p. 50:Question: Why do we observe Sunday insteadof Saturday?Answer: We observe Sunday instead ofSaturday because the Catholic Church, in theCouncil of Laodicea [c. 363] transferred thesolemnity from Saturday to Sunday.

Changing The Holy DaysDan. 7:25. We know that in the last days therewill be a political leader (a Constantine figure)and a religious system that bring to maturity thechange of the laws, feasts and holy days. Catholic Press, Aug. 25, 1900"Sunday is a Catholic institution, and... can bedefended only on Catholic principles.... Frombeginning to end of Scripture there is not asingle passage that warrants the transfer ofweekly public worship from the last day of theweek to the first."

Let’s See What Notable Christian Leaders FromDifferent Have To Say About All ThisMETHODISTS Charles Buck, A Theological Dictionary, Sabbath"Sabbath in the Hebrew language signifies rest, andis the seventh day of the week... and it must beconfessed that there is no law in the New Testamentconcerning the first day." Clovis Chappell, Ten Rules for Living, p. 61:"The reason we observe the first day instead of theseventh is based on no positive command. One willsearch the Scriptures in vain for authority for changingfrom the seventh day to the first."

PRESBYTERIAN The Christian at Work", April 19, 1883, andJan. 1884:"Some have tried to build the observance ofSunday upon Apostolic command, whereas theApostles gave no command on the matter atall.... The truth is, so soon as we appeal to thelitera scripta [literal writing] of the Bible, theSabbatarians have the best of the argument."

ANGLICAN Isaac William, D.D., Plain Sermons on theCatechism, vol. 1:"Where are we told in Scripture that we are tokeep the first day at all? We are commanded tokeep the seventh; but we are nowherecommanded to keep the first day.... The reasonwhy we keep the first day of the week holyinstead of the seventh is for the same reasonthat we observe many other things, notbecause the Bible, but because the Church, has enjoined it." Emphasis added B. Hill

EPISCOPAL Philip Carrington, Toronto Daily Star, Oct. 26,1949:"The Bible commandment says on the seventhday thou shalt rest. That is Saturday. Nowherein the Bible is it laid down that worship should bedone on Sunday."

BAPTIST Harold Lindsell (editor), Christianity Today,Nov. 5, 1976:"There is nothing in Scripture that requires us tokeep Sunday rather than Saturday as a holyday."

Quotes From Early Writers That TheGentile Believers Celebrated TheFeasts And SabbathThere is abundant evidence that the church celebratedthe Sabbath and feasts well into the fourth century andbeyond. Origen (185-254)―After the festival of the crucifixion Passover is put thefestival of the Sabbath, and it is fitting for whoever isrighteous among the saints to keep also the festival ofthe Sabbath. There remains therefore a keeping of theSabbath for the people of God Hebrews 4:9. “Homily on Numbers23,” par. 4. in Migne, “Patrologia Greece,” Vol. 12, cols. 749, 750.

Quotes From Early Writers That TheGentile Believers Celebrated TheFeasts And Sabbath The Catholic Historian, Sozomen (early 5 th . Century),describes the worship of the church in these words:The people of Constantinople, and almost everywhere, assemble together on the Sabbath, as well as on the firstday of the week, which custom is never observed atRome or at Alexandria. There several cities and villagesin Egypt were contrary to the usage establishedelsewhere, the people meet together on Sabbathevenings, and although they have dined previously, partake of the mysteries [Lord‘s Supper].‖ Ecclesiastical History ofSozomen, The Nicene and Post Nicene Fathers, Book 7, Chapter 19.

Down even to the fifth century theobservance of the Jewish Sabbath wascontinued in the Christian church, but with arigor and solemnity gradually diminishing.‖Coleman, Ancient Christianity Exemplified, Chapter 26, Section 2, p. 526.

Evidence From Church CouncilDecrees 4 th. Thru 5 th. The Inquisition At Goa 1684The bottom line here is that the early church didnot break off or reject her Messianic Roots. These roots were violently cut off thorough thedecrees of the Roman Catholic Church and thepagan emperor Constantine and theirsuccessors. While the 16 th. Century reformers restored muchthat the church had lost, they never re-engraftedthe church into its Messianic Root.

Let’s Discuss How Are We ToKeep The Sabbath? We know that the scribes and Pharisees tried tolegislate in minuet detail through the oral laws, whatwas acceptable or unacceptable to do on the Sabbath. In doing so, they made the Sabbath a great BURDENsomethingGod NEVER intended . He gave theSabbath and magnified it in other places in His Wordwith some specifics, but mainly by expounding broad, spiritual principles.1 John 5:3For this is the love of God, that we keep hiscommandments: and his commandments are notgrievous. KJV

How To KEEP The SabbathsWhat does God tell us In the fourthcommandment itself?1. God says, "Remember” the Sabbath day Ex 20:8-9,2. ―Observe” the Sabbath day Deut 5:12-14.3. "Six days you shall labor and do all your work"That Brings Us To The Next Injunction with operationalprincipals."But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord yourGod. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, noryour daughter, nor your manservant, nor yourmaidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who iswithin your gates" Exodus 20:10.

How To Keep The SabbathsOf course, preparing-or cleaning up after-alight meal would not be wrong. For we find anumber of occasions when Jesus enjoyed aSabbath meal with others. And He nevercondemned the practice of hospitality on theSabbath (cf. Luke 14:1-6). Come unto me , all ye that labour and are heavyladen, and I will give you rest. Matt 11:28 KJV Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of theSabbath. Mark 2:28 kjv

Finally, to really understand how Godintended the Sabbath to be used, look atwhat He said in Isaiah 58:―If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doingthy pleasure on my holy day; and call the Sabbath adelight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalthonour him, not doing thine own ways, nor findingthine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: 14Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I willcause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father:for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.‖ Isa 58:13-14 KJV

Feed Thee With The Heritage Of JacobThe Father of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. Jacob thus sums up in a single individual "the seed" ofpromise. He becomes the father of 12 sons, who are the progenitors(originators) of the tribes of the "peculiar people." It is for this reason that Israel bears his name, and not thatof his father Isaac or that of his grandfather Abraham. The "children of Israel," the "house of Jacob," are thetotality of the seed of the promise. The Edomites too are children of Isaac. Ishmaelites equallywith Israelites boast of descent from Abraham. But thetwelve tribes that called themselves "Israel" were alldescendants of Jacob, and were the only descendants ofJacob on the agnatic principle of family-constitution. This Is Why Our Ministry Has ThisFaith StatementSection 38. The Nation of Israel:―We believe that the rebirth of Israel as a nation, withJerusalem as its capital, marks the beginning of thefulfillment of God‘s plan for the redemption of His ancientJewish people. The church has not replaced Israel, butrather the church has been grafted into Israel as part ofIsrael‘s commonwealth.‖ (Romans 9-11).This says we are not ―Israel‖ but grafted in through thecovenant of Abraham just like the Edomites who arechildren of Isaac. Ishmaelites equally with Israelites boastof descent from Abraham. But ―Israel‖ the twelve tribes thatcall themselves "Israel" were all descendants of Jacob, sowe all receive of the promise of Abraham and because ofthe Messiah we are ―wild olive‖ branches grafted in thatreceive of the commonwealth of Israel (Jacob) withoutbeing from one of the twelve tribes.

So we are not to be doing our own pleasureon God's Holy Day. That does not preclude doing anyenjoyable things on the Sabbathwhatsoever, for we are to find DELIGHTin it. The point is that, whatever we do,God must be an intrinsic part of it.

REMEMBER , OBSERVE AND KEEPTHE SABBATH HOLYSo we should not think of the Sabbath as the day we"can't do" this or that! Rather, we should approach thisvery special day as a period when we can and shouldreally TAKE TIME to deeply study the Bible andfellowship as families and the Body of Christ. In addition, the Sabbath is the perfect time forunhurried, thoughtful, heartfelt rest, worship, fellowshipand prayer to our Father in heaven-to "commune" withour Creator and the saints in worshipping Him, to getto know Him intimately. This, then, is how to ―REMEMBER , OBSERVE ANDKEEP THE SABBATH HOLY.‖

REMEMBER , OBSERVE AND KEEPTHE SABBATH HOLYOf the Ten Commandments, the fourth oneconcerningthe Sabbath day-is and always hasbeen the real "test" commandment (Exodus16:4). Ex 16:4 Adonai said to Moshe, ―Here, I willcause bread to rain down from heaven for you.The people are to go out and gather a day‘sration every day. By this I will test whether theywill observe my Torah or not. CJB Torah; “God’s Teaching and instruction.”

REMEMBER , OBSERVE AND KEEP THESABBATH HOLYMany can accept the other nine commandments-don'tworship other gods, honor your parents, don't murder, don't commit adultery, don't steal, don't lie, etc. But thefourth commandment is different. To keep it meansvisibly living quite differently from the society aroundyou-perhaps even being looked upon as odd or weird.Yet Jesus said, "If anyone comes to me and does not hatehis father and mother, wife and children, brothers andsisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be Mydisciple. And whoever does not bear his cross and comeafter me cannot be My disciple" (Luke 14:26-27, TEV).

REMEMBER , OBSERVE AND KEEP THESABBATH HOLYBottom Line1. Do you love the "praise of men" more than thepraise of God?2. Do you have the FAITH and the COURAGE toobey God's commandments?
