UWS Professional Staff Conference ‐ 2013Student Services and Amenities Fee• Since early 2009 many attempts were made tointroduce student amenities fee legislation• The Government finally had this Bill approvedby the Senate without ih amendment on 11October 2011• This legislation changes the Higher EducationSupport Act to enable universities to chargestudents a services and amenities fee per yearplus indexation and provide students theoption to pay the fee directly or add it to anew loan scheme called SA‐HELP loan.Joann Flack & Larry Walls 5


UWS Professional Staff Conference ‐ 2013• UWS decided to charge the Student Servicesand Amenities Fee from Autumn 2012• Working party was formed from various AROdepartments• Callista required new functions to collect andmanage SSAF• Implement a new HELP Loan Scheme for SSAFcalled SA‐HELPJoann Flack & Larry Walls 6
