The primary purpose ofthe role is to work directly with people experiencing, or at riskof homelessness with a view to meeting their accommodationneeds by giving advice and information.Designated mentor (Project Leader)Regular supervision meetingsTraining in TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for auxiliarystaff), organisation Induction and Child Protection (for auxiliarystaff)Integration as part of the team9 months, 30 hours per weekKey Responsibilities1. Work within the framework of the overall objectives of Focus Ireland.2. To provide clear and precise information and advice on emergencyaccommodation, housing, Social Welfare and legal rights to people in need.3. To refer and place people in emergency accommodation.4. To undertake an assessment of people’s personal and accommodation situationneeds.5. To advocate on people’s behalf for housing, Social Welfare and other resources.6. To refer people to external agencies which can more appropriately assist themwith their personal, social, legal and accommodation needs.

7. To implement the existing policies and procedures of the project and of theFocus Ireland Agency.8. To undertake any other responsibilities and duties as may be reasonably beassigned by your Manager or Divisional Head.9. To engage in supervision sessions on a regular basis with the Project Leader.10. To participate in relevant training and development courses.11. To be vigilant to any Health, Safety and Welfare risks in the workplace andbring any concerns to the attention of your line manager or Health & SafetyRepresentative12. To undertake such other duties as might be reasonably assigned from time totime in consultation with the Line Manager/Services Manager and/or Director ofServices.Criteria: Advice Worker, CorkFocus Ireland is an equal opportunities employerEssential:• An understanding of services for people experiencing homelessness• A third level Social Care qualification or relevant other• Understanding and openness to learning about social welfare and health boardsystems and payments and have experience of assisting people to access both.• Excellent communication skills with particular emphasis on written and verbaladvocacy while being able to deal with vulnerable and marginalised groups in a verybusy environment.• Understanding and openness to learning about of the principles of good practice forthe protection of children, and a good working knowledge of child protectionprocedures.• Good knowledge of Local Authority and voluntary housing agencies with experience inreferral and advocacy to each.• Good PC skills.Desirable:• Previous experience of dealing with challenging behaviour• Experience in carrying out case work including assessments and formulating careplans to assist people experiencing homelessness in securing suitableaccommodation, would be an advantage.Interested candidates should send a CV and cover letter to**Please note that all offers would be subject to Garda vetting and reference checking –interns cannot commence the placement until this process has been completed**
