CurtisStrange said, “That course was oneof the 3, 4, 5 courses I would havebet you would have never seen a 59on”. A par 72 measuring 7334 fromthe back tees, the South is withoutquestion one of the most challengingcourses to play in the country andone of the most enjoyable. With treelined fairways, gorgeous lakes, anduncharacteristic elevation changes tothe region, the South Course is truly agem to behold.Last Time OutThe <strong>Kansas</strong> <strong>City</strong> men’s golf teamwrapped up the Bandon DunesChampionship in seventh spot, firinga final round 296 to finish with an 884over three rounds at the Old Mac-Donald Course at the Bandon DunesResort in Bandon, Ore.Senior Korbin Kuehn led the ‘Roosin the event, shooting a one over totie for 11th in the event, with a pairof birdies in the final round. FreshmanAntoine Rozner and junior ColeChelle both carded final round 73’s,as each birdied both the second andfourth holes. In the event, Roznershot a four over to tie for 24th, whileChelle was two shots back in a tie for31st.Hughes Named Summit League<strong>Golf</strong>er of the WeekJunior Nathan Hughes recorded hisfirst career <strong>Golf</strong>er of the Week honorafter placing in a tie for 10th place atthe WSU Snowman Getaway. The juniorcarded a 54-hole one-under parscore of 215 (71-73-71) for a strokeaverage of 71.67 on the week. Hehelped <strong>Kansas</strong> <strong>City</strong> to a fourth-placeteam finish with an 868. The Kangaroosfinished ahead of Air Force, Gonzaga,Minnesota and <strong>Kansas</strong> State atthe event. Thesenior fired a 54-hole 209 (68-70-71) to finish tied for fifth place andled the Kangaroos to a fourth placescore of 854, the fourth-lowest inschool history, at the Mark SimpsonInvitational. Kuehn recorded hissecond top-10 finish of the month atthe Jim Rivers Intercollegiate with ascore of 216 (70-73-73) placing in atie for ninth. Kuehn also carded a 217(71-71-75) at the <strong>Golf</strong>week ProgramChallenge to start the season. Currently,Kuehn holds the fourth-lowestcareer scoring average in schoolhistory at 74.14.Summit League BestEntering the event, the <strong>Kansas</strong> <strong>City</strong>men’s golf team holds six of the top13 spots in scoring average in TheSummit League. Senior Viktor Mikaelsson,meanwhile, is 11th at 74.44,while juniors Jack Fiscus (74.92) andCole Chelle (75.19) are 12th and 13th,respectively.Last SeasonIn 2011-12, the Kangaroo men’s golfteam finished in seventh place in TheSummit League Championships withan 881 with Korbin Kuehn (1st Team)and Cole Chelle (2nd Team) earningall-league honors.
