Please advise her (Tele: 06 753 6139Ext 7602 or viki.kershaw@tdhb.org.nz) if you would like to hold a course in yourarea. The St John’s room in Hawera is available if a contact can be identified.Diane Frewn is a suggested contact in Ngamatapuri; in Opunake the contact isMonique Sinclair who will also check with the Parihaka group. The Pateacontact is Molly Cole.3.2 Mr Walker complemented the South <strong>Taranaki</strong> <strong>District</strong> Council noting they arean exemplar of best practise in the organisation and hosting of the recentFluoridation process held in Waverley. Mr Walker acknowledged the TDHB, thenational representatives who spoke and the literature that was available whichpresented a professionally planned meeting.
3.3 South <strong>Taranaki</strong> Manager• Discussions included identifying any gaps in services in South <strong>Taranaki</strong>, arethere areas which need attention that are not being addressed• Suggest CE write formally to the Community Forum4.0 Updates4.1 Hospital Services ReportMaternity ReviewFollowing a series of discussions, the DHB has received feedback, from Maori<strong>Health</strong>, Hawera ED doctors, maternity staff, the NZ College of Midwives and DrBlayney, on different options for maintaining the maternity services at HaweraHospital. A proposal will be developed on the basis of this feedback and followingdiscussions with the Hawera maternity staff. A further discussion with staff will beheld at the end of March. Mrs Cleland advised nothing has to change, close down orreduce services. It was agreed to devise some “Frequently Asked Questions” or“What Ifs…”4.2 Cladding on Hawera HospitalDiscussions are being had between the builder and supplier to determine what needsto be replaced and who will pay.4.3 Hawera Community Dental ClinicThe opening will take place at 10am on Monday 4 March <strong>2013</strong>.4.4 Opunake Community ReportMrs Sinclair enquired if the <strong>Taranaki</strong> DHB have Drug Education programmesavailable for communities and schools, any leaflets or other form of assistancearound drugs in the community. #64.5 A Coastal Care charity golf event is being held in Opunake to raise funds for theproposed new health facility, all welcome.4.6 Patea Community ReportPatea has two doctors.4.7 Tui Ora LimitedPost meeting update received from Mihi KahueCommunications Project – Tui Ora is embarking on a project to improvecommunication with clients and staff. The eCommunications project includes twomajor parts, a new website and an Intranet. Work began late last year and draftdesigns for the website have been presented to the project team. Tui Ora will have ademo website to show everyone in the near future.4.8 Mental <strong>Health</strong> – residential clients moved in December from the Old BarrettStreet Hospital complex to a new whare on Powderham Street, New Plymouth.South <strong>Taranaki</strong> Community Forum 2
4.9 Youth Services (Hawera based) – The <strong>Taranaki</strong> Youth Service is settled in newpremises in Hawera at 1 Glover Road.4.10 <strong>Taranaki</strong> Ora is a Te Puni Kokiri funded project that Tui Ora Ltd has beendelivering in partnership with Tu Tama Wahine o <strong>Taranaki</strong> since early 2012. For TuiOra the project has three main goals:• The delivery of whanau ora focused client management software,• Results Based Accountability Workforce Development, and• Implementing a whanau centred approach to service delivery.4.11 Ngati Ruanui TahuaIs going through the process of a restructure and a new management teamconsisting of Ngati Ruanui Runanga personnel who have been appointed to supportthe process. The aim of the management team is to align a single entity, to assist the‘Rollin’. All stakeholders will be informed in due course of the changes. Meanwhile itremains business as usual for those on the ground floor.4.12 TransportMr Walker noted bus services from Manaia to Hawera have dropped. The Opunaketo Hawera run has dropped away however the Opunake to New Plymouth run hasincreased.5.0 Key Messages5.1 The opening of the Hawera Community Dental Clinic will take place at 10amon Monday 4 March <strong>2013</strong>.5.2 The <strong>Taranaki</strong> DHB will support South <strong>Taranaki</strong> <strong>District</strong> Council by respondingto medical questions sent to the Council about community water fluoridation.Information on fluoridation has also been provided to Patea and Waverley residentsthrough libraries, information centres, local dentists and medical centres.5.3 The DHB has received feedback from Maori <strong>Health</strong>, Hawera ED doctors,maternity staff, the NZ College of Midwives and Dr Blayney, on different options formaintaining the maternity services at Hawera Hospital. A proposal will be developedon the basis of this feedback along with discussions with the Hawera maternity staff.5.4 SouthCare Medical Centre are continuing to provide services as usual with areduced number of staff.5.5 The Midland Clinical Advisory Group are developing a number of newinitiativesto support patients being cared for in their communities rather than hospital.SouthCare GPs are keen to implement these initiatives locally.Meeting closed at 4.55pmNext Meeting : Wednesday, <strong>27</strong> March <strong>2013</strong>South <strong>Taranaki</strong> Community Forum 3
