What is <strong>GHB</strong>• Central nervous system depressant (CNS) and hypnotic <strong>–</strong> dosedependent• Endogenous at very low concentrations in ante-mortemmammalian tissue (0.2 - 4.6 mcg/g) ante-mortem human blood(less than 2 mcg/mL) and human urine (less than 10mcg/mL)• Naturally occurring hydroxy <strong>acid</strong> metabolite of <strong>Gamma</strong>aminobutyric<strong>acid</strong> (GABA)• Has a variety of research and medical applications as well asabuse potential• Over produced in a disease called succinic semi-aldehydedehydrogenase deficiency (Gibson et al. 1990)
