What is our vision?What have we achieved?What are we doing now?A Europe that is striving to become apeaceful, compassionate and just society.A Europe that has found a better alternativeto imperialism.A Europe where conflicts are resolvedpeacefully and justly.A Europe whose peoples act towards othersas they would have others act towards them.How are we workingfor it?By lobbying, diplomacy, research, workingwith the institutions.By supporting MEPs’ Intergroup on PeaceInitiatives.By supporting the campaign to developcivilian capabilities as an alternative tomilitary intervention.By being actively involved in networksseeking a more human-rights centredapproach to issues such as migration andasylum.By organising study tours, publications andresearch, and a biennial QCEA AssociateMembers’ Conference.By challenging prejudice.By encouraging and celebrating diversity.By helping Friends across Europe to lobbyeffectively on European issues at all levels.Our work to date has included:Successfully campaigning for a discussion in theCouncil of Europe on the situation of women inprison and their children.Working with other NGOs to create the EuropeanPeacebuilding Liaison Office (EPLO), a recognizedrepresentation of civil society engagement inpeacebuilding at EU level.Working with the Intergroup for Peace Initiatives inthe European Parliament to assist in maintaining adebate on important peace issues, eg nuclear nonproliferation,conscientious objection by militarypersonnel and European Security Research.Publishing a report on the state of conscientiousobjection in the member states of the Council ofEurope which highlights the work that still needsto be done to ensure that an acceptablealternative is open to all those conscriptedto serve.What do we want to do?Bring a Quaker voice to the policy-makers.Work with others to bring about a culture ofpeace in Europe.Continue to produce Around Europe and otherpublications.Set up a network of active Friends across Europeand keep them informed on European affairs.Read more in Around Europe and on our website.Our work currently includes:Working with the EPLO to encourage the EU todevelop civilian capabilities and to cooperate withNGOs in crisis management, conflicttransformation and peacebuilding.Exploring the situation of women in prison andtheir children, in cooperation with QPSW andQUNO-Geneva, and lobbying on these issues atthe Council of Europe.Examining the effectiveness of conflict preventionin the development assistance from the EU to thegroup of African, Caribbean and Pacific countries.Examining the EU’s response to terrorism andmaking policy proposals for alternativeapproaches in this area.How can you help?Become a Supporting Member (local meetingsand MMs) for £65 p.a. and receive AroundEurope (3 or more copies) and copies of otherpublications as issued.Become an Associate Member for £32 p.a. andreceive Around Europe and our otherpublications and take part in AssociateMembers’ Conferences at a reduced rate.Subscribe to Around Europe, our monthlynewsletter, at £16 p.a.Make a donationRemember QCEA in your WillTell others about our workTell us what you think of our work
