<strong>Beech</strong> & <strong>Rustic</strong> <strong>Beech</strong><strong>Beech</strong> is a plentiful, sustainable,carefully managed species thatmakes up a majority of thehardwood forests in Europe.<strong>Beech</strong> has been widely used inEuropean furniture and cabinetryfor generations, and offers durabilitysimilar to that of Red Oak, with agrain pattern that is often comparedto Maple. Due to its flexibility,<strong>Beech</strong> has become increasinglypopular for use in high-endfurniture, cabinetry, flooring andmillwork. We offer <strong>Beech</strong> and<strong>Rustic</strong> <strong>Beech</strong> as a standard woodspecies in both our framed andframeless cabinetry lines.10
<strong>Rustic</strong> <strong>Beech</strong>Heartwood<strong>Rustic</strong> <strong>Beech</strong> has many of the same attributes as<strong>Beech</strong>, but with more color variations, streaks, andknots. These characteristics can be enhanced withglaze, which will settle into the knots and accentuatethe grain variations.Sapwood<strong>Beech</strong> tends to show very little difference in the appearance of the heartwoodand sapwood, which makes the overall color of the wood more consistent.Characteristics of <strong>Beech</strong><strong>Beech</strong> is a strong hardwoodwith a densitysimilar to Maple. Thisstraight-grained wooddisplays the durabilityof Oak with a moreconsistent grain pattern.Knots and irregular grainmay be present in <strong>Beech</strong>,but are generally kept toa minimum. The grainpattern reflects thegrowth rings that markthe growth rate of theindividual tree, so thewidth and spacing ofthe grain pattern will bedifferent on each pieceof wood.The overall look of <strong>Beech</strong>is fairly consistent, andthe color will vary fromlight to mid-tone brown,with intermittent darkbrown heartwood streaks.When light to mediumcoloredstains are used,grain patterns and rayflecks will be moreprominent. Darker stainswill subdue the colorvariations and enhancethe grain pattern.Color and Grain PatternOne of the most unique properties of <strong>Beech</strong> is the waythe appearance of the grain pattern changes withdifferent stain colors. Shown above from top to bottomare Natural, Pecan and Java.
