She studied Cultural Studies at the University of Amsterdam and as ajournalist she wrote theater reviews for NRC Handelsblad. In 2004 she received a prestigious grand with which she obtained afellowship at the Columbia University at New York. She used her time on the subway and in several Starbucks to write her debutnovel Leopold (2005). Recently she wrote a highly successful young-adult book.
