He wrote a book of essays called The Five Great Emotions and in 2008 his debut novel Forty Days was published.As part of his research for The Book of Laughter and Death, Webeling interviewed survivors of the German concentration camps.He also discussed the comical content of the book with the prominent contemporary Dutch comedian Youp van ‘t Hek.
