Overall fire safety strategy……is to provide sufficient safety barriers toeffectively minimize the likelihood of a majoraccident. The following fire safety measures arethe core in the strategy:– Fire alarm system– Sound system for emergency purpose– Sprinklers– Pressurized stairway– Safe areas
The fire brigade….…. do not have the resources to take anactive part in life safety action within anapartment, nor will they be able toextinguish a fire in an apartment beforecritical situations occur.
Legislation & guidelinesSwedish BuildingRegulation- Performance based since 1995- No specific rules for high-riseNFPA 101, 1997 edition- EvacuationSBF 120:5 (NFPA 13 R)- Sprinkler

Technical systems– Sprinkler– Fire alarm– Escape alarm– Pressurized stairwell (in six parts)– Pressurized fire elevator– Smoke ventilation (elevator & cellar)– Ventilation system– Standby-power

Escape alarmSpoken message.– Different messages. (Information & Escape)– Activates with 2 detectors (or 1 detector +sprinkler).– Activates cube by cube.– Possibility for manual spoken messages by thefire brigade at the CCS.
Pressurized stairwell &fire elevator• Pressurization activateson two detectors.• Only the stairwell in thefire zone that areeffected getspressurized.• Closing of doors areessential.• Stand-by power andredundant fans.
