An emphasis was placed onthe need for continued partnership between the private and publicsectors in the promotion of sustained CSR practice.Through the expansion and growth of the CSR Leadership Awards, TheEnergy Chamber has truly been a trailblazer in promoting CSR in theregion. However, our CSR thrust goes beyond the awards. Our goal is to see CSR tied symbiotically into business operations, influencing everything from supply chain management to socialinvestment. Within recent times, the call was made by Governmentto pursue a CSR agenda for Trinidad and Tobago, in collaboration withthe private sector. This call originated after recognizing that privatecompanies have been pioneering in developing CSR activity. The 2007 Energy Chamber-UNDP CSR Mapping Project identifiedCSR activities being carried out primarily by the energy companies inTrinidad and Tobago. The Energy Chamber believes that the time has come for greaterpartnership between the private and public sectors in developing andimplementing activities geared towards the sustainable developmentof people, communities and a nation, as a whole. The formation of meaningful partnerships is essential in moving theCSR agenda forward as partnership between the private sectors,Government and civil society can affect desired changes.Through relationship building and greater collaboration with variousstakeholders, the CSR profile in Trinidad & Tobago can and will be raised. This requires alignment of goals and sustained effort and supportbetween the private and public sector. In the end, CSR, for both businesses and Governments can signal ashift towards sustainable development, creating a platform for thesimultaneous development of communities and conservation of theenvironment alongside long term responsible business practices.Charles Percy,PresidentThe Energy ChamberThe Energy Blueprint MagazineThe Energy Blueprint Magazine3
