GAMES OF COOPERATIONCooperation—helping, sharing and reciprocity—is a pro-social behaviour that allowsus <strong>to</strong> live <strong>with</strong> our needs and the needs of others, yet requires the ability <strong>to</strong> realize theneeds of others (empathy), <strong>to</strong> set aside <strong>you</strong>r own interests (generosity) and take action(initiative) creatively according <strong>to</strong> the needs expressed by others.These ga<strong>me</strong>s are useful <strong>to</strong> understand collaboration and <strong>to</strong> get used <strong>to</strong> exchanging,sharing and constructing synergies <strong>with</strong> others. Such skills are the base <strong>for</strong> friendship.In ga<strong>me</strong>s of cooperation there are no winners or losers. Instead, every participant’sskills and characteristics are needed in order <strong>to</strong> reach the goal of the ga<strong>me</strong>. Suchga<strong>me</strong>s allow <strong>for</strong> the inclusion of those children who during competition ga<strong>me</strong>s couldbe excluded (like handicapped children).At the end of each ga<strong>me</strong> we can ask one or more of these questions, <strong>to</strong> allow the participants<strong>to</strong> gain awareness about the reason of the ga<strong>me</strong> and the trainer <strong>to</strong> receivefeed-back from the group:Why have we <strong>play</strong>ed this ga<strong>me</strong>?How do <strong>you</strong> feel at the end of the ga<strong>me</strong>?What have <strong>you</strong> thought during the ga<strong>me</strong>?Which is the thing <strong>you</strong>’ve liked most?What did <strong>you</strong> find easy?What did <strong>you</strong> find difficult?<strong>Do</strong> <strong>you</strong> think <strong>you</strong> will ever use this ga<strong>me</strong> again in <strong>you</strong>r life?When and how?24
