Fulfilling Our Mission: Alumnae Christmas Project<strong>The</strong> <strong>Catholic</strong> <strong>High</strong> Alumnae Annual Christmas Project for Needy Families and Seniors was a success once again thispast December. <strong>The</strong> project was able to provide gifts to 38 families <strong>of</strong> a local Title 1 school. Volunteers filled morethan 70 black trash bags full <strong>of</strong> presents for the children to receive on Christmas morning, and purchased $2,200worth <strong>of</strong> supermarket gift cards for the parents and guardians <strong>of</strong> the children.Suzanne Remeikis ’08, granddaughter <strong>of</strong> project organizer Bonita (Bonnie) Lee ’60, is a teacher at the school wheregifts were donated, and worked with the school guidance counselor to coordinate the donations. “Knowing that wehave helped so many is a rewarding feeling. Actually getting to see the faces and reactions <strong>of</strong> some <strong>of</strong> the people wehelped is even more rewarding,” Suzanne wrote on the Alumnae Project’s blog.Alumnae were also able to provide Christmas gifts to low income senior citizens at Jenkins Senior Living Community,an organization sponsored by the <strong>Catholic</strong> Charities <strong>of</strong> <strong>Baltimore</strong>. <strong>The</strong>re were two hundred goodie bags prepared byvolunteers to be given to residents. Nazelrod ’68 is excited to celebrate the monumental event in <strong>Catholic</strong> <strong>High</strong>’s history.“My vision includes celebrating our longevity with all <strong>of</strong> our constituents—the Sisters <strong>of</strong> St. Francis who sponsorus, our thousands <strong>of</strong> alumnae, our current school community, our current and former teacher and staff, ourboard, representatives <strong>of</strong> the parishes who feed into <strong>Catholic</strong> <strong>High</strong> and our neighboring community. It needs tobe a huge celebration <strong>of</strong> anybody and everybody who is part <strong>of</strong> <strong>Catholic</strong> <strong>High</strong>’s past, present, and future.”Plans are being made for a timeline by decade <strong>of</strong> important dates in our school history, which will be displayedin <strong>The</strong> Class <strong>of</strong> 1961 Heritage Room. <strong>Catholic</strong> <strong>High</strong> is looking to add to its archives, and welcomes any additionsalumnae are willing to donate in order to preserve the school’s legacy. Additional pieces will be displayed in theHeritage Room for the occasion.
