Fulfilling Our Mission: Alumnae Christmas ProjectThe Catholic High Alumnae Annual Christmas Project for Needy Families and Seniors was a success once again thispast December. The project was able to provide gifts to 38 families of a local Title 1 school. Volunteers filled morethan 70 black trash bags full of presents for the children to receive on Christmas morning, and purchased $2,200worth of supermarket gift cards for the parents and guardians of the children.Suzanne Remeikis ’08, granddaughter of project organizer Bonita (Bonnie) Lee ’60, is a teacher at the school wheregifts were donated, and worked with the school guidance counselor to coordinate the donations. “Knowing that wehave helped so many is a rewarding feeling. Actually getting to see the faces and reactions of some of the people wehelped is even more rewarding,” Suzanne wrote on the Alumnae Project’s blog.Alumnae were also able to provide Christmas gifts to low income senior citizens at Jenkins Senior Living Community,an organization sponsored by the Catholic Charities of Baltimore. There were two hundred goodie bags prepared byvolunteers to be given to residents. Nazelrod ’68 is excited to celebrate the monumental event in Catholic High’s history.“My vision includes celebrating our longevity with all of our constituents—the Sisters of St. Francis who sponsorus, our thousands of alumnae, our current school community, our current and former teacher and staff, ourboard, representatives of the parishes who feed into Catholic High and our neighboring community. It needs tobe a huge celebration of anybody and everybody who is part of Catholic High’s past, present, and future.”Plans are being made for a timeline by decade of important dates in our school history, which will be displayedin The Class of 1961 Heritage Room. Catholic High is looking to add to its archives, and welcomes any additionsalumnae are willing to donate in order to preserve the school’s legacy. Additional pieces will be displayed in theHeritage Room for the occasion. Alumnae are encouraged to be involved in the planning process by joining acommittee or volunteering to work events throughout the 75th celebration. “Catholic High doesn’t only belongto the young women who are here now; it belongs to everyone who has graduated from the school.
