Recreation<strong>Experience</strong><strong>Activity</strong><strong>Club</strong> ForTeens


REACT is designed to….• Provide students an opportunity to become moreinvolved in their school and community• Encourage students to develop and maintainmeaningful relationships with typically developingpeers


REACT Facts:• Events are held 1-2 times a month on Friday nights• REACT is currently in the 6 th year of operation• All events are staffed by 3 special educationteachers• REACT initially began with 17 students and hasrapidly grown to 30 students.


Previous REACT Events Have Included:• Bowling• Restaurant outings• Holiday shopping• AGHS dances, sportingevents, plays, and musicals• Laser tag and miniaturegolf• Wilmington Blue Rocksgames• Swimming at the YMCA• Barbeques


Outcomes of REACT• Participants feel connected to school & community• Transferring of social skills to the natural environment• Students reaching out to each other via phone• Friendships made• Students choosing to be an active member of a club

The Future of REACT• REACT is one way the <strong>Avon</strong> <strong>Grove</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> SpecialEducation Department can continue to promote awarenessas well as an appreciation for diversity.• The REACT club has been presented as a model program atthe annual PDE conference in Hershey, PA and toneighboring school districts.• The popularity of REACT is expected to grow.
