1.0 INTRODUCTION1.1 BackgroundThe Uganda Land Alliance (ULA) with support from DANIDALegal Aid Basket Fund (LABF) implemented a project on “LandJustice For Peace Building In Northern And EasternUganda: Traditional Authorities Making a Difference at theGrass Roots. The original timeframe for the project was oneyear (August 2009 to July 2010). However this project wasextended to December 2010 to enable ULA complete all thepending activities. The aim of the project was to contributetowards the integration of informal land justice deliverymechanisms into the formal justice system.One of the activities planned by ULA under the project was tocollect data during project implementation to assess ULA’scontribution towards the integration process. The data collectionalso captured people’s attitudes and opinions of the significanceof both formal and informal systems in delivering justice andrationale for the integration of the two justice mechanisms.The main output of this exercise is an analysis of theunderstanding of the different interventions by different actorsand the impact of these interventions on the integration process.The analysis also contains the community’s perceptions towardsthe importance of both formal and informal systems andDecember 2010 1
