Thesearch for funding was on, and <strong>the</strong> organising team should know <strong>the</strong> outcome by <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> October.The Post-Congress tour would go on to Canberra and Melbourne.Brane Kovic (BK) said he was delighted with <strong>the</strong> overall <strong>the</strong>me for <strong>the</strong> Congress, but wondered whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong>rewas not a slight problem with <strong>the</strong> regional slant. He suggested doing something to <strong>international</strong>ise <strong>the</strong> debate.Susan Best reminded members that <strong>the</strong> programme she had presented was only intended to give <strong>the</strong>m ageneral idea <strong>of</strong> what was planned, and that <strong>the</strong> details could be adjusted, in response to individualsuggestions.Haydee Venegas agreed with BK’s point <strong>of</strong> view.AB remarked that she was not particularly taken with what had been suggested for <strong>the</strong> Post-Congress andsaid she would have preferred it, if a visit to Ayer’s Rock could have been included.RTB drew <strong>the</strong> attention <strong>of</strong> those present to <strong>the</strong> fact that <strong>the</strong> Congress would not be taking place at <strong>the</strong> normaltime <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> year, around October, and reminded <strong>the</strong>m to take account <strong>of</strong> this, in case it created problems forany <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m.Phyllis Braff agreed and said that many people would be on holiday in July. However, October also presenteddifficulties for many people in <strong>the</strong> US, because <strong>the</strong> new school and university year began in <strong>the</strong> previousmonth, September. She believed, however, that members would be interested in this Congress and wouldmake an effort to attend.Belgica Rogriguez raised <strong>the</strong> question <strong>of</strong> travel costs and considered that few Latin American members wouldbe able to go to Sydney. She requested that some thought be given to obtaining financial supportSusan Best suggested approaching <strong>the</strong> Getty Foundation for assistance.RTB remarked that <strong>AICA</strong> had already, in <strong>the</strong> past, approached <strong>the</strong> Getty for help with <strong>the</strong> travel costs <strong>of</strong>colleagues from Latin America. He suggested that, if <strong>the</strong> Australian organisers were to approach <strong>the</strong> Getty forassistance for delegates from Latin America, <strong>the</strong>y should also bear in mind <strong>the</strong> comparable needs <strong>of</strong>colleagues from Africa, Asia and o<strong>the</strong>r parts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> world.Haydee Venegas mentioned that a Korean airline operated a route to Australia and sometimes <strong>of</strong>fered tw<strong>of</strong>lights for <strong>the</strong> price <strong>of</strong> one.Susan Best added that Japan Airlines <strong>of</strong>fered special rates to passengers willing to make <strong>the</strong> journey in twostages.HMH said that it should be necessary to reach a firm conclusion soon on <strong>the</strong> proposed itinerary for <strong>the</strong> Post-Congress tour.He <strong>the</strong>n thanked Susan Best for her presentation.2009 Congress - IrelandRTB outlined <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>me <strong>of</strong> ‘Art and Science’ proposed by Ciaran Bennett for <strong>the</strong> Congress in Dublin, in 2009.This met with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Assembly</strong>’s approval.Edward Rubin opined that this was an excellent idea, as more and more artists were working in this area, andin specific fields such as <strong>the</strong> physical sciences.2010 Congress – TurkeyRTB reported that Beral Madra had not had <strong>the</strong> time to propose ei<strong>the</strong>r dates or a subject for this Congress, asshe had been very tied up with <strong>the</strong> current Istanbul Biennale. However, he reminded colleagues that Istanbulwould be <strong>the</strong> European Cultural Capital in 2010.He also reminded members that <strong>the</strong>y had, in principle, endorsed <strong>the</strong> bid from Istanbul at <strong>the</strong> interim meeting <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> Administrative Council, earlier in <strong>the</strong> year.Subsequent CongressesThe Bureau had now also received proposals for subsequent Congresses from: Barcelona, Egypt, SouthKorea :- BarcelonaPilar Parcerisas (PP), President <strong>of</strong> <strong>AICA</strong> Catalonia, said that her Section was now 140 strong and very active.It organised seminars (see http://www.acca.cat/ ) and collaborated with numerous institutions and art centres<strong>Minutes</strong> <strong>of</strong> GA – Sao <strong>Paulo</strong> – 5 October 2007 5/9
