A.4.0 StakeholderworkshopA.4.1A.4.1.1IntroductionDate & timeThe workshop was held from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, 27 April, at the Council offices, Galileo St, Ngaruawahia.A.4.1.2PurposeThe purpose of the workshop was to hear the views of key members of the community on how wastemanagement and minimisation services in the district should be developed.Under the Waste Minimisation Act 2008 all councils must review their Waste Management and MinimisationPlans (WMMPs) prior to June 2012. As part of this review, Waikato District Council is undertaking a wasteassessment. The waste assessment takes stock of current services, looks at potential future demand for waste services, anddevelops initial options for addressing future demand. A waste assessment is an essential first step to producinga new waste management and minimisation plan.Although there is no formal requirement for consultation as part of the waste assessment, the council believesthe views of key stakeholders in the community are vital in shaping any plans, and therefore commissioned thisworkshop to ensure these views are taken into account at an early stage. As such, the workshop was not aiming to reach any form of consensus or broad agreement regarding thepotential direction or content of the plan, but simply to canvass the range of views held by the community.A.4.2Time4:15pm4:30pmAgendaItemRegistrationWelcome – Glen McIntosh, Waikato District Council4:35pm Presentation from Lisa Eve, Eunomia Research and Consulting on the waste assessment andWMMP process, Waikato District waste services, and waste data4:55pm Plenary Session led by Lisa Eve, Eunomia Research and Consulting -5:35pmDiscussion of broad aims and objectivesIdentification of key issues for discussion (e.g.):• Council’s role• Cleanfills• Regulation• Education and communicationCoffee BreakWaikato District Council waste assessment 201163
