Orange County Schools isproud to offer a well-rounded inexpensive, multi-faceted KidsCamp for incomingstudents in grades 1-6 (age 11 limit).Each week is filled with a wide range of activities: swimming, bowling, skating, sports,outdoor games, music, and arts & crafts. KidsCamp offers a fun, well-rounded summercamp experience offering campers a little bit of everything from visiting museums and parksto water balloon races and tug-o-war. Campers are placed in coed groups by age and enjoynew friendships while participating in either planned activities or activities of their choice.Children who attend KidsCamp often find themselves developing new hobbies because ofthe activities they were able to participate in during our summer camp program. KidsCamphas lots of benefits, but perhaps the best one is that they build lasting memories. Each day is achance for campers to learn to appreciate each other and to appreciate our environment. Wewant every camper to take home a smile, along with new skills and new friendships.Our KidsCamp is highly successful because of our quality staff. Our staff is selectedbecause of their energetic, outgoing, and fun-loving personalities, their ability to positivelyguide young children, and their desire to make a difference! Staff members are requiredto have completed training in First Aid, CPR, Bloodborne Pathogen, Playground Safety,School-Age Certification course or equivalent and B.S.A.C. training programs. More AboutKidsCampAGESOrange County Schools Summer Camp is designed for studentswho have completed kindergarten through grade 5. Registrationsfor rising sixth graders will be accepted through age 11.LUNCH AND SNACKSChildren attending Grady A. Brown Elementary and New Hope Elementarywill need to bring a morning snack and a bag lunch dailywith non-perishable foods. We do not provide refrigeration, butlunches are kept in a cool environment until lunch time. Breakfastand lunch will be provided at no cost to campers at CentralElementary through the Federal Government Feeding program.On days that field trips are scheduled parents/guardians may haveto provide lunch. An afternoon snack will be provided daily at allSummer Camp sites.TRANSPORTATIONTransportation is not provided to camp. However, students aretransported to field trips via OCS transportation. Weekly fieldtrips are planned based on the theme for the week. You willreceive monthly field trip calendars for the summer. Pleasenote these calendars will be subject to change throughoutthe summer and we will keep you posted of any changes. Weask children to be here at least 15 minutes prior to departure.For your convenience, the monthly calendars will includedeparture and return times. Field trips are not optional unlessyour child is being picked up early. If your child will not begoing on a specific field trip because you are picking them upearly, be sure to let the office know (preferably in writing) andwe will keep them at Junction Square. Field trips are staffedwith a lower teacher-to-child ratio in order to maintain a safeenvironment.HEALTH CONCERNSAny restrictions to your child’s activities, due to health reasons, shouldbe noted on the Emergency and Health History Form. If your childwill need medication while in our care, please fill out a MedicationForm (located in the office) and leave the form and the medicationwith the office staff. Be sure that all medications are labeled clearlywith your child’s name. All medications must come to us in theiroriginal containers. At no time should a child have medication withthem or administer medication without supervision.REGISTER EARLY! The camps accept 60 students persite on a first come-first serve basis until all slots arefilled. There is a $30.00 (per child) non-refundableregistration fee and two weeks (2-weeks) camp feesdue at registration. Go through 10 traffic lights,and turn left on the second street past the 10 th light (Union Street – which is approximately 1.8 miles fromthe I-40 exit). At the 4 th four-way stop, travel dog-leg straight across the intersection. Central is .1 mile onthe right. (You’ll pass Hillsborough Elementary School between the 3 rd and 4 th four-way stops.)From Durham on I-85: Traveling south on I-85, take exit 170 for Highway 70. Travel west on 70 for 6.6miles. Turn left onto Churton Street (big intersection with traffic light and Tony’s Barbecue on the left).Travel .5 mile, and turn right onto Union Street.
