Class of 2007StandoutsThe Notre Dame-CathedralLatin Class of 2007 can leaveknowing it has achieved allA’s: They are accomplished inacademics, the arts, in athleticsand in aiding others.The Class of 2007 is recognizedby school faculty as greatlydiverse, bright, articulate,emotionally mature and giftedin countless ways.Here, we profile many of thestandout students among thisyear’s graduating seniors.Congratulations to theNDCL Class of 2007Congratulations graduates of the Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin Class of 2007.The faculty, staff and administration of NDCL wish you the best of luck at collegeand beyond as you pursue your dreams and set out to use your diverse talents andgifts to make a Christian impact in the world. Our thoughts and prayers go with you!Many will remember the strength senior class members demonstrated in light ofseveral tragedies that occurred this past year– a class truly united, demonstratingincredible maturity in the wake of painful events. Class members modeled severalof NDCL’s core values – integrity, respect and community – as they offered supportand guidance to their underclassmen.Staff and faculty at NDCL take away personal memories from the Class of 2007:“The Class of 2007 is one of greater diversity than classes we’ve had in the past.These young adults are bright, articulate, gifted in so many different arenas andquite emotionally mature,” describes Kathy Sanborn, guidance counselor at NDCL.“In light of true tragedies, their response has been incredible throughout the year.”Guidance counselor Holly Goddard sees a lot of artistic talent in this group of students– musical as well as the fine arts.Dean of Students Terry Hurley describes, “As a group, the rules and regulations ofthe school were followed by the whole class. They showed respect for the schooland teachers and were all very easy to get along with.”“Warm, personable, extremely friendly…They were like my kids,” adds Kathy Hurt,NDA ’73, receptionist/attendance. “They will make a difference in this world!”Lisa Chiappone already has a head start on herclassmates at the Scripps Howard School ofJournalism at Ohio University, where she plans tostudy journalism and mass communications beginningthis fall.Lisa, the daughter of Phil and Heidi Chiappone ofKirtland, has been freelancing for the KirtlandGazette newspaper for about a year, penning featurearticles on subjects such as construction at Kirtland High School.“I have always enjoyed writing, but I’m not much of a storyteller,” sheadmits. She thrives, however, on gathering information and presenting it inan accurate and creative way.“It’s also a way to get active in the community,” adds Lisa, 18.She envisions herself in magazine or broadcast journalism.“My dream job – which is pretty far out – would be to be like KatieCouric,” she says with a laugh. “But other than that, I’d like to write for amagazine that’s pretty well known, about fitness or fashion.”Lisa attributes her competitiveness to her own drive, her parents’encouragement, and the self-discipline she learned as a star swimmer onthe NDCL team. She lettered in the sport all four years, moving on to statecompetitions in relays her first two years. An injury forced her to cut backthe last two years.Lisa also shone academically, achieving eight straight semesters ofSecond Honors, more than a 3.7 grade-point average, two academic letters,and student of the month in German and business. She served on studentcouncil for two years, as a Senior Buddy to NDCL freshmen, as a memberof the National Honor Society, and as a staffer for the Mane Page newspaper.She was as an officer in the German Club her junior year and presidentthis year.“I have really enjoyed the Catholic education,” Lisa says. “The teachers,staff and students made it a really great environment.4 Seasons <strong>Summer</strong> 2007 Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin
