Onbehalf of the Board, I extend my thanksto all The Alfred Foundation’s donors.Your contribution to this projecttotalled more than $6.6 million andwas literally invaluable, allowing us topurchase state-of-the art equipmentitems, many of them unique to thesouthern hemisphere.Another significant milestone inthe 2006/07 year was the opening ofAustralia’s – and again the southernhemisphere’s – first dedicated PaediatricLung Transplant Program here at TheAlfred.We celebrated a world ‘first’ inmedical research with the publicationof a landmark international studyinto nitrous oxide led by ProfessorPaul Myles, The Alfred’s Directorof Anaesthesia and PerioperativeMedicine, and there have also beenseveral new capital projects including aredevelopment of the cardiac wards.Every contribution counts and it is thisgenerous support that allows The Alfredto fund the many capital and researchprojects that reinforce its leadership rolein patient care.My thanks, too, to the Board for all itsunstinting work during the year andto the dedicated staff and volunteers atThe Alfred Foundation.I hope you enjoy reading The AlfredFoundation: A Report to The AlfredCommunity 2006/07.
