The competition was run on aleague basis over a number of weeks with 5 clubs (Blackrock, Douglas, St.Finbarr’s, Na Piarsaigh & Erins Own) each entering 2 teams. After each teamhad played each other, the top 4 teams were Blackrock, Erins Own ‘Blue’, ErinsOwn ‘Red’ and St. Finbarr’s. After 2 fantastic games the 2 Erins Own teamswon their semi-finals and faced each other in the final which ended in a drawbut saw Erins Own lift the Mick Cashman Cup for the 1 st time. Former Cork All-Ireland winner and All-Star Jim Cashman presented the Cup to Erins Own andcomplimented the children on their skill levels. This is a great achievement forthe players and their coaches: this is an unusual group for Erins Own as wehave over 30 children ‘on-the-age’ which is double the average number ‘on-theage’in all other squads. In addition, the children have shown great dedicationand interest in training, as well as spending lots of time practicing at home.

This was thesecond time the club hasunder taken this type offundraiser and it was evenmore successful this timearound. Pat O Neill, Denis OKeeffe and PJ Savage spentmost of Saturday in Caherlagcollecting and sorting thescrap. Diarmuid Cunninghamarrived later on to overseethe proceedings of the day.And all the lads weredelighted with therefreshments provided byMichelle GuestOur junior team headed to Mallow on Saturday the 6th of June for theMunster seven aside tournament. After a number of closely for contestswe progressed to the semifinal. In a tightly fought contest against ateam from Limerick we drew but lost in a shootout. We went homedisappointed but had a fantastic day which will stand to us as a team asthe season progresses. The stop off on the way home for McDonald'swas a welcome distraction from the daily intakes of protein and salads.!!!Special thanks to Diarmuid Cunningham and Joe Broderick who were thementors on the day. ‘D’ memories and team spirit which was so evidentin the shootout will last for a long time.Junior ladies had two successful wins, in two separate competition inthe space of four days. Sunday the 28th of June, the girls traveled toSkibbereen to play a league semi-final against Caheragh. Erinsownplayed with a strong wind in the first half which game them a greatplatform at half time. The girls held out to win comprehensively. Wemust give a special thank you to the O Donovan Rossa Club who greatlyhelped us out, after we left some vital equipment in the car park inCaherlag!!! We would also like to thank all the supporters who made thetrip back west to cheer on the girls. Just three days later the JuniorLadies had to tog out again to play championship, at home this time toCarrigaline. u14U12After a very wet long weekend the Erin’s Own girls travelled to Fermoyevening to play their game. Conditions were dry and overcast, with littleto no wind. The game got off to a late start as the referee went to thewrong pitch. Never the less we stayed warm and started the game whenhe arrived. The game got off to a lively start with both the backs and forwards beenput through their paces. After 5min in we got our first point. Theforwards were on fire. Shauna Murphy corner forward collected a highball in the air, went on to hand past to Kate Cogan who then in turnburied it in the net. Sarah Mc Carthy from half back got a run on the balland travelled to put it over the bar. Score going into half time was 1-3 to0-1.Well done to the u14footballers who had afantastic win over Fermoy .The girls travelled to St.Colmans pitch to give anexhibition of football despitethe lashing rain and strongwind. Erinsown playedagainst the breeze in the firsthalf and went in at the breakwell up. Ellie Crotty playedher usual commanding role inthe forwards to score sometop class goals. Fantasticsupport play came fromShauna Cunningham, HelenSavage and Sarah Kiely, whoalso scored a cracking goal ofher own.A short break at half time as the light was fading and we got back out onthe pitch. Again we lead this half. The constant team work between thegirls was brilliant. Leah O Shea played out of her skin by scoring another2 goals. The backs defended the goal with great strength. Emma O Neillgot every loose ball and cleared it down the wing. A free was given toFermoy in the last 10 minutes from 20ft outside the goal line. It was tobe a low ball into the corner of the net but with the skill of our goalkeeper Grainne Guest (GG) this was not to be. When substitute RebeccaFoley came on the forward line, she wasted no time and on her firsttouch of the ball put it clearly over the bar.Well done to Fermoy who put in a great effort in what was a crackinggame. The final score was 3-5 to 0-1 to Erin’s Own.Abbey Delaney adapted verywell to her new role in thefull back line, along withEmma Crotty and AoifeKelleher who were all superbin defence. Anna Mulcahyand Fea McCoy workedextremely hard to win anddeliver the ball in the forwardline. Alannah Mahon addedto her tally this season withanother outstanding point.Well done to all involved.
