Welcome to the Grundfos world of customised solutionsCR pump NBG pump NKGE pumpGrundfos CR and NBG/NKGThe modular approachThe basic CR and NBG/NKG pump ranges, which apply to almostany industrial solution, constitute the broadest rangeavailable. With our modular approach, we have made themeven broader. The basicsThe basic CR pump range is available in four different materials− including cast iron, two grades of stainless steel, andall-titanium versions − in eleven flow sizes, capable of producingalmost 50 bars of pressure, and with a variety of shaftseals, rubbers, and supply voltages. The basic NBG/NKG pump range is available in three differentmaterials − including cast iron and two grades of stainlesssteel – with a flow range up to 1200 m 3 /h, pressure ratings of10, 16 or 25 bar, and with a variety of shaft seals, rubbers, andsupply voltages. In order to make the CR and NBG/NKG pumps suitable foreven more industrial applications, we have redesigned someof the vital but, normally, standard pump parts to enablethem to handle difficult liquids or stand up to particularly demandingoperating conditions. This means that we do not need to create a completelynew pump model to deal with such applications− the modular concept of the CR and NBG/NKG pump rangesmakes it possible to put together a specialised pump for anyparticular application by selecting the modules best suitedfor the job from the existing, comprehensive range of modulevariants. At Grundfos, we look at the CR and NBG/NKG pump rangesas a building system consisting of four interrelated modules:CR range:Motors - page 12-13Shaft seals - page 14-15Pump modules - page 16-17Other options - page 18-19NBG/NKG range:Motors - page 24-25Shaft seals - page 26-27Pump modules - page 28-29Other options - page 30-31All modules described are tested, qualified, documented andproven, just like any standard Grundfos pump. You can mixand match to suit almost any pump requirement to handleaggressive, abrasive, toxic, explosive, hardening, crystallisingor otherwise difficult liquids. If your installation has special specifications such as limitedspace, earthquake risk, high altitude, certification requirementsor you simply want the pump in your company colours– it is all at hand with the CR and NBG/NKG pump ranges.Adding up all pump variants available, we have passed severalmillions – and counting!23

The pressure in the chambermust be higher than the pump pressure toprevent leakage. The barrier fluid pressure can be suppliedby either a Grundfos dosing pump arrangement(up to 16 bar) or an intensifier for pressurerequirements above 16 bar.For applications involving a high risk ofcrystallisation (e.g. sugar solutions ) orhardening (e.g. oil or paint) as well as pumpshandling vacuum, a special double shaft seal ina tandem arrangement is available.Grundfos offers a quenching fluid systemfor the flushing of the shaft seal.Solution Description PhotoMAGdrive(sealless)Shaft sealvariantsMAGdrive pumps are completely leak-free. Theyuse the power of strong magnets to turn thepump shaft from outside, so there are no sealsor openings for the liquid to escape through. Theresult is safe, hermetically closed pumping.Grundfos offers a wide range of balancedcartridge shaft seals with different seal facessuch as Silicon Carbide, Carbon and TungstenCarbide to handle almost any industrial liquid.CR/CRI/CRN/CRT – MULTISTAGE CENTRIFUGAL PUMP• Extraordinary high or low temperatureTitaniumshaft sealFor applications involving a high risk ofcorrosion, an all-titanium shaft sealvariant is available for the all-titaniumCRT pumps.RubbermaterialsSeals fitted with chemical resistantFXM (Fluoraz ® ) or FFKM (Kalrez ® ) rubberO-rings are available for applicationswhere the liquid may damage standardO-ring materials such as EPDM, FKM andViton ® .LiqTecdry runningprotectionThe Grundfos LiqTec is an electronicanti-dry-running sensor that stops thepump immediately if it senses no liquid. The LiqTec can also monitor the flow andtemperature of the pumped liquid andcan operate as a PTC relay for the motormonitoring motor overload.HightemperaturesPumps which handle high temperaturesare fitted with a special air-cooled shaft sealchamber enabling them to withstand watertemperatures of up to 180°C (thermal oil ofup to 240°C). No external cooling is required.14 15
Pump modulesAll the made-to-stock CR pump modules canhandle the most demanding of liquids andpressures – and be adjustable to virtuallyany requirement. Of course, the modulescan be combined in multiple ways making itpossible for us to provide you with a pumpsolution that matches your specific needs.CR pumps come in many flow sizes and variousgrades of corrosion-resistant stainlesssteel – and an all-titanium variant. What follows is an overview of some of themost common CR pump variants offeredby Grundfos. These include several seal face combinations thatcan handle almost any industrial liquid.NB/NBG/NK/NKG – SINGLE-STAGE END-SUCTION PUMPRubbermaterialsDifferent combinations of O-rings in shaft seals and in the pump are possiblein order to adapt to the specific application. Special rubber types such as FXM(Flouraz®), FFKM (Kalrez®), and HNBR are available where the liquid may damagestandard O-ring materials such as EPDM, FKM and Viton®.Double shaftsealTandem orBack-to-backFor applications mentioned above a cartridge seal operating either as a tandemseal or as a back-to-back seal is also available.Stuffing boxThe stuffing box is an alternative for remote applications where the mechanicalshaft seal will quickly wear out. Three types are available: without cooling, with internal cooling from the pump, with external cooling.26 27
Pump modulesAll the made-to-stock NBG/NKG pumpmodules can handle the most demanding ofliquids and pressures – and be adjustableto virtually any requirement. Of course, themodules can be combined in multiple waysmaking it possible for us to provide you witha pump solution that matches your specificneeds. NBG/NKG pumps come in many flowsizes and various grades of corrosion-resistantstainless steel. What follows is an overview of some of themost common NBG/NKG pump variantsoffered by Grundfos. However, the overviewcovers only a fragment of the total pumprange. Please do not hesitate to contactGrundfos if your requirements are not coveredby the overview.• High inlet pressure• High-pressure pump systems required(up to 25 bar)• Pumping of gas or particle-entrainedliquids• Pumping of high-viscosity or sticky liquidsSolution Description PhotoHousingmaterialImpellermaterialWear ringmaterialNBG/NKG pump housings are available in threematerial variants – cast iron and two differentstainless steel grades, covering everything fromclean water to chemical applications. With the choice of cast iron, bronze or stainlesssteel impellers, the pump can be fully adaptedto any pumped liquid.Optimised hydraulics of impeller and pumphousing provide outstanding efficiencies. The complete pump range is supplied withreplaceable wear rings. The wear ring material ismatched to the impeller to achieve best possiblesealing and wear properties.Solution Description PhotoHigh inletpressureFlangeconnectionsBearingmonitoringFor applications with extremely high inletpressure, a heavy-duty bearing construction isnecessary to counterhold the shaft.Flange connections are according to EN 1092-2 andAS (PN16).Most stainless steel pumps are available withloose flanges rated for 16, 25 or 40 bar.Unexpected downtime for repairs usually causesmajor production losses. This can be avoidedby having bearing monitoring devices installedin the bearing bracket. These give continuousinformation about the bearing condition sothat repairs can be scheduled for an appropriatetime.SPM (shock pulse measurement) fittings arefitted as standard in the heavy-duty bearingbracket. Fitting of Pt100 sensors is an option.NB/NBG/NK/NKG – SINGLE-STAGE END-SUCTION PUMP• Vertical pump mounting• Reduced silicon content in pump• Special materials requiredShaft materialTo provide a very long life and good serviceabilityof the pump, the wetted part of the shaft isalways in stainless steel. Three grades areavailable: 1.4034, 1.4401, 1.4462.VerticalmountingCertain situations require the pumps to bemounted vertically. The NBG pumps can be designed to fitinstallations with limited width, vehicles, ships, etc.RubbermaterialsDifferent combinations of O-rings in the pumpare possible in order to adapt to the specificapplication. Special rubber types such as FXM(Flouraz®), FFKM (Kalrez®), HNBR and FEPS areavailable where the liquid may damage standardO-ring materials such as EPDM, FKM andViton®.Bare shaftpumpFor applications in remote areas or mobileapplications where electric power is notavailable, bare pumps powered by e.g. dieselengine or steam turbine can be supplied.CouplingsFor NKG pumps two couplings are available: thestandard coupling and the spacer coupling. The spacer coupling provides supreme serviceability.Silicon reducedpumpFor applications where paint wettingimpairment substances must not be present, asilicone reduced pump can be used. The siliconreduced pump is assembled using silicone-freecomponents, lubrication, shaft seal, and O-rings.The product will be performance tested in thenormal production test equipment.28 29
