A section <strong>of</strong> the route traverses North <strong>Leitrim</strong>, coming in from Co. Sligo boundary near Ballintogher <strong>and</strong> on through Dromahair, to<br />

Manorhamilton, to Glenfarne <strong>and</strong> onto Cavan.<br />

<strong>Leitrim</strong> <strong>County</strong> Council was a steering group; SUSTRANS were the co-ordinating group who secured funding from SEUPB which was<br />

matched by contributions from the participating local authorities annually.<br />

<strong>Leitrim</strong> <strong>County</strong> Council pulled out <strong>of</strong> the project in 2009 as they were unable to afford this annual contribution<br />

amended by specifying that any road or development providing access to a public road is not exempted development <strong>and</strong> must be subject to<br />

the planning process. This will be <strong>of</strong> significance to forestry growing farmers <strong>and</strong> wind farm developers alike who will now have to factor<br />

makers but there is no specific publication or site that is specifically devoted to this topic.<br />

In 2006, <strong>Leitrim</strong> <strong>County</strong> Council Arts Office with the support <strong>of</strong> the Arts Council devised a programme called ‘The <strong>Leitrim</strong> Equation’<br />

General idea was that a traditional Irish music b<strong>and</strong> would be invited to spend time in <strong>Leitrim</strong>. Over the course <strong>of</strong> a year <strong>and</strong> a half<br />

the b<strong>and</strong> would visit the county for three days every couple <strong>of</strong> months <strong>and</strong> play with the local musicians. There are three musical<br />

residencies in <strong>County</strong> <strong>Leitrim</strong>, two have been completed.<br />

The first <strong>of</strong> the residencies was led by Lúnasa <strong>and</strong> the second was led by Dervish.<br />

Two traditional musical compilation albums were released as a result <strong>of</strong> these residencies: <strong>Leitrim</strong> Equation 1 <strong>and</strong> <strong>Leitrim</strong> Equation<br />

2. These albums contained a number <strong>of</strong> traditional <strong>Leitrim</strong> tunes that had never before been recorded<br />
