12:00pm -2:00pm at the GlenFair Lanes located at 59 th Ave. and Bethany.
Watch, Quarter and Station Bill
Be on the lookout this drill weekend for the Watch, Quarter, and Station Bill.
What is a Watch Quarter and Station Bill? The WQ&S Bill is used to assigned
specific jobs to personnel assigned to navy units. It also identifies where to go
or what to do during various emergencies and evolutions such as fire drills or
marching formations.
The Operations Department and specifically the Quartermaster are
responsible for updating and maintaining the WQ&S Bill. Check for your name
and see where you are supposed to be and what you are supposed to do when
the time comes. If information is incorrect on it, contact the Leading Petty
Officer, PO1 Monteleone to get it corrected. The Watch Quarter and Station Bill
will be posted inside the main hall near the Quarterdeck.
Sep. 10 th is National Naval Sea Cadet Day
Friday September 10 th is the 48 th birthday of the Naval Sea Cadet Corps.
Initially formed in 1958, the program was officially recognized and chartered by
an act of Congress in 1962. There has been an active Naval Sea Cadet unit
drilling in Phoenix since 1963. We would like to ask that all cadets show their
pride in the program by asking you to wear your dress uniform (whites / salt
and peppers) to school on that Friday. You are allowed to wear your dress
uniform anywhere you like as long as you represent yourself to the best of your
ability with the honor, courage, and commitment that goes into wearing a U.S.
Navy uniform.
You are part of a long naval tradition that dates back hundreds of years to
countries around the world. Be proud of this program and what it represents
and be able to tell people about it. It is always a good idea to be able to provide
them additional information as well. You can contact LCDR Turner for recruiting
materials and information about the program, or just some business cards with
contact information to hand to people. If you don’t have anything to give to
someone, you can always send them to the Sea Cadet website at
www.seacadets.org or our unit website at www.phoenixseacadets.org for more.
Regional Events – Navajo Nation Parade
Cadets from the Veterans Pride Battalion will be attending the Navajo Nation
Days parade again this year. They are inviting all of the cadets and staff from
our region to join them in this event. They will be meeting in the Metro Center
area on Friday Sep 10th and coming back on the 12th. They are planning on
staying at the Ganado HS gym. This is a special event. The cadets will have a
chance to see and hopefully meet Navajo Code Talkers while the few are still
around. After parade activities will most likely include hiking Canyon de Chelly
with its Navajo ruins and a glimpse of the old Navajo lifestyle still being lived in
the canyon. The parade is 5 miles long and the entire route is full of spectators
as the entire Navajo Nation from four states gather.
To give our host adequate time to prep and for us to make sure there are
enough vehicles to transport all, please RSVP NLT Sept 4th. Generally our hosts
support us by cooking but we pay our own food costs. Generally it has been 20
dollars a person. Permission slips and a Sea Bag list/POD are available from
LCDR Turner for those interested in attending. For more information and to
RSVP, contact LTJG Bob Dalpe at bobdalpe@yahoo.com no later than Labor Day.

Coast Guard Aux. learns about NSCC
On August 27 th and 28 th , LCDR Turner gave a
presentation to the national U.S. Coast Guard
Auxiliary Convention, which was held at the
Camelback Inn in Paradise Valley. The annual
convention brings the leadership of the Coast Guard
Auxiliary, the civilian uniformed component of the
U.S. Coast Guard, together to elect new leadership,
discuss policy, and provide training to its members.
This year two of the training sessions focused on
integrating U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary units with
youth programs including the Naval Sea Cadet Corps.
The presentation focused on providing Auxiliarists with a full description of
the program and described opportunities where Sea Cadets could provide
assistance to the Auxiliary in the areas of Color Guards, assisting with Public
Affairs booths, assist with vessel safety checks and participate in waterway
cleanups. In return, the Auxiliary could provide valuable training opportunities
to the cadets in the areas of Safe Boating classes, Radio Communications,
Navigation, Weather, and other areas of basic seamanship skills. The
presentations were well received by the convention and the hope is that the
ideas presented will trickle down through the Auxiliary to the local levels
throughout the nation resulting in an overall increased participation between the
two organizations.
Massing of the Colors
Our first Color Guard of the season is the 46 th
annual Military Order of the World Wars Massing of
the Colors and Service of Remembrance, held on
Sunday September 12 th at Carl Hayden High
School. The 108 th Army Band begins playing at
2:00pm and the program begins at 2:30. Ask your
friends and neighbors to come see this very
patriotic presentation. The four cadets who will be
selected to perform in this event will likely not
return to Hensley until after drill ends. The
program is scheduled to end around 3:15pm.
Dismissal from drill is at 3:00 pm or 1500. Staff
will remain on site until their return as needed.

It’s time to re-enroll for this year
Double check the back of your ID Card. If you are within 2 months of reenrolling,
see Instructor Cheryl Turner or Instructor Maci McGraw about
renewing your enrollment. Re-enrollment fees for existing cadets for the 2010-
2011 year are still only $100 and haven’t gone up in nearly 10 years.
The following Navy Leaguers need to have their ID cards renewed:
Gabriel Avila Steve Gutierrez Mackenzie Myhlhousen
Karissa Voldberg Cynthia Duke
The following Sea Cadets need to have their ID cards renewed:
Dustin Frank Evan Schrage
Cadets who let their enrollments expire are not allowed to participate in drill
activities until their fees are paid and are subject to being dropped from the
program. Don’t let this happen to you!
Awards and Promotions
