Barangay nurseries have likewise been establishedconsidering that the commercial extraction of Ylang-Ylang oilrequires some 100,000 flowering Ylang-Ylang trees. Recordsshow that an average of 2,000 seedlings is propagated everymonth. Ylang-ylang seedlings are distributed free of charge tobarangays, schoolchildren, cooperative, and other nongovernmentorganizations (NGOs) for replanting.The LGU has also entered into an agreement with the<strong>Anao</strong> National High School and the Association of BarangayCouncils, assuring that every high school and grade five andsix student will plant at least one ylang-ylang tree in theirbarangay.Replication. Several municipalities like Guagua andLubao in Pampanga and Pura in <strong>Tarlac</strong> and the provincialgovernment of Nueva Ecija have bought Ylang-Ylang seedlingsfrom <strong>Anao</strong>. <strong>Anao</strong> has also committed to give 200 seedlings tomunicipalities near <strong>Anao</strong>.PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED AND PROPOSED SOLUTIONSThe problems encountered were typical of a growingenterprise such as: Lack of technical expertise and capital Lack of information dissemination and promotionalmaterials Lack of full blooming trees to answer the growing demandfor Ylang Ylang Need for an extractor that would yield an average 15-ml/kg oil Limited land area to serve as a plantation Pests, and disease that threatened the Ylang-Ylang trees
