This year’s guides will feature afull-color retro look, celebrating the district’s rich history, largely from the 1940s to the1970s, when color was taking off in the movies, in magazine advertising and on television. Some of the images (black-and-white and color) contained in this year’s four guides havebeen pulled from the district’s photo archives, thanks to the Skokie Heritage Museum andthe Skokie Historical Society.About the CoverThis season’s cover features a 1940 photo of the Niles Township High School girls’synchronized swimming team, posing at their annual water carnival. In 1960, Skokieresidents continued to swim at the park district’s new Oakton Community Pool, renovatedin 1999 into a state-of-the-art water park, renamed Skokie Water Playground.c. 1919 — Summer boys in front of the Niles Center Pharmacy at 7928 Lincoln Avenue— Skokie Historical SocietyWeb information disclaimerA reminder that Park District informationlisted on third party web sites may beinaccurate.
