Brighter Futures Award<br />

Certificates were presented to the 34 graduates <strong>of</strong> the first RI State Victim<br />
Assistance Academy by Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch. The Academy,<br />
a collaboration between <strong>Family</strong> <strong>Service</strong> <strong>of</strong> RI and Roger Williams University,<br />
is based on a national model and funded by a grant from the U.S.<br />
Justice Department. The graduates were victim service providers from<br />
across <strong>Rhode</strong> <strong>Island</strong>.<br />
Congressman Patrick Kennedy received the 2009 Brighter Futures Award<br />
for his championing <strong>of</strong> children’s mental health issues. The award is given<br />
annually by <strong>Family</strong> <strong>Service</strong> <strong>of</strong> RI to salute those improving the lives <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Ocean State’s children.<br />
The Providence Housing Authority recognized <strong>Family</strong> <strong>Service</strong> <strong>of</strong> RI’s years<br />
<strong>of</strong> extending substance abuse prevention programming and life skills<br />
training to the Authority’s residents, bestowing on the agency a Partnership<br />
Award.
