This Just In:<strong>Fisher</strong>NewsOn August 17, 2010, Jane Roberge ‘11, a lifeguard at OldOrchard Beach, Maine, rescued two children. Major JohnCrowley of the U.S. Air Force Reserve witnessed the rescue, andrelayed Jane’s extraordinary efforts in a letter to Director ofAlumni Relations Kristen Sherman:Without hesitation, Ms. Roberge radioed forbackup…and went in. She swam far out andreached a teenage girl and her youngerbrother – in time!Guards crashed the scene [and] brought thechildren back to the beach. Both collapsed intotheir mother’s arms. The girl just would not letgo. I will never forget this sight – it confirmedthis was a lifesaving rescue.I was so impressed with Ms. Roberge that, afterevents had slowed down, I went up to her toask her name so I could report her conduct forofficial commendation. Later that day, I reportedthe events to the Town’s Chief of Fire & Rescue.When asking her name, Ms. Roberge noticedmy Red Sox shirt and said she liked it, andBoston, where she attended <strong>Fisher</strong> <strong>College</strong>..................................................................................<strong>Fisher</strong> received a $10,000 grant award from the VerizonFoundation aimed at strengthening retention practices andintensifying skills acquisition among nursing candidates.<strong>Fisher</strong> <strong>College</strong> welcomed Chad Jeremy, an AmeriCorps memberand program officer of the prestigious Annenberg SpeakersBureau. In July 2010, <strong>Fisher</strong>acquired 111 Beacon Street (formerly theButera School of Art). The recently-refacedbrownstone is an ideal addition to the 12buildings currently owned by the <strong>College</strong>.President Thomas McGovern marveled at theopportunity of buying a building across thestreet from the <strong>College</strong>’s flagship building at118 Beacon Street: “This purchase signalsour continuing growth while solidifying ourpresence on this historic Back Bay corner.”The <strong>College</strong>’s Fashion Institute is the primary beneficiary:Computer-Aided Design (CAD) equipment previously usedby the art students has quickly modernized <strong>Fisher</strong>’s fashiondesign program.
